View Full Version : Do you ever feel 'wired'?

The majority of the people on here know that I'm a bit of a coffee freek, some might even label me a coffee geek. I am however, partial to the odd cup of Earl Grey or English Breakfast Tea [without milk obviously]. Today I brought into work some Afternoon Tea and Earl Grey teabags. Both are deliciously tasty and aromatic beverages which I love to sip and enjoy. There has been one side-effect though - I feel completely and utterly wired on caffeine. As someone who regularly quaffs three ristrettos in the morning I'm somewhat surprised that a simple, albeit delicious, cup of tea has left me feeling 'wired' on caffeine.

My drinking pattern during the day is: three ristrettos with breakfast, only water throughout the day [though I may have a Coke with lunch] and then two ristrettos later on in the evening [but never after 6:30].

Does anybody else get this feeling of being 'wired' and does the body build up a tolerance as you continue to drink tea / coffee during the day?

All I know is that when I used to go on pub crawls with very boozy friends, as a non drniker I drank a coffee when they had a pint. By the time we went home I was sky hgh.
Not noticed it with tea though and I love Earl and Lady Grey.

I had to cut down on my intake of tea (20 plus cups some days) because it was making me hyper. I find that if I can drink hot water in the morning and leave the tea until later it stops me from getting on the tea wagon.

I once gave up tea & coffee for about a month, then I went to a Microsoft day-long conference, had to get up very early to get there and there was lots of tea & coffee on offer so I drank a cup of coffee - instantly felt completely wired, it was a very strange feeling, stronger than I would expect even from harder drugs. I had another cup later and it gave me a stonking headache which lasted the rest of the day.

Nowadays I hardly ever drink coffee, and try not to have too much tea, and whenever I do I can feel the effect it has on my body.

Tea and coffee are really quite strong substances in their own right.

A few years ago I undertook a strict de-toxing diet for a number of weeks, during which I couldn't drink any tea or coffee. I've always been a 'tea-Jenny', so it was very hard to stick to, but I managed. (Had the most vicious headache of my life during the night of my first full day's de-toxing though :gag: )

After about 3 weeks, the diet eased up a bit, and I had my first cup of tea in weeks. It nearly took my head off! (I like my tea strong!) Whoo - talk about wired - I never knew tea had it in it!!

But seriously, it made me realise that tea is quite a strong drug, and I have reduced my intake of it since then. Although I could never see myself giving it up, I have developed a lot more respect for it.

And coffee..... more than one cup a day, and I get really hyper. So I don't really drink coffee that often. I rather foolishly drank an espresso after a meal one night when on holiday in Florence - I think I finally got to sleep at about 6am the next morning after bouncing off the walls all night - no jokes please! :D
