star & garter? went there a month ago, it was a pretty poor showing with about 8 or 9 people in. complete waste of time stopping off. DJ got really narky cos i stuck my head round to the side of his laptop to help him identify the song another singer and i were wanting to sing. spent most of his time outside having a fag. we were waiting ages. the mics sounded pretty muffled too.
its gone really downhill since i played there about 3 or 4 years ago when Mac and Jill had it. the house was packed inside and outside in the smoke tent, every sat.
not sure what the solution is now but they could start by getting rid of that stupid punching machine, it takes up too much room and gives the wrong impression.

Good luck with your new venue.

SF can be a clicky place with all the DJ's but they are a nice bunch.

Don't think I'd have lasted 10 mins trying to sing in a pub full of smokers. lol

ah... just like the old days! mac and jill know how to party.
i have already said what i felt should be said, my comments were intended as gentle criticism and a pointer in the right direction as a fellow dj.
i was with company on the evening in question and their impressions and comments were also taken into account as an observant and impartial visitor to the pub. those comments are worth taking on board as that person was a member of a sizeable group of regulars who visited the star and garter on a regular basis but no longer see a good reason to do so.
i noted the lady (other dj) who was selecting the music. would it not be prudent to kit her out with a set-up and regular gigs so you would have twice the income? two dj's doing the same gig is less money and a waste unless the fee is megabucks. that's why dj's dont have roadies and why i do not play in a band anymore.
i am not here to pull anyone apart, we all know there are some really poor dj's out there who give the rest of us a bad name especially with the public but that is not what i was saying about you.
i have vast experience as a dj which i am happy to share, but there will be the odd occasion when things are not quite right even when i'm playing, a dj who is the mutts nuts to most of the planet will still have a dissenter who is not content. the difference is in how the dj handles that dissenting voice and what he (or she) does or changes that counts.
the days when everyone though the dj was god are over....well almost! at least for the time being.
building up a regular audience is hard work nowadays, getting the show sounding good to the audience you already have, is a good start. a well entertained audience will do your advertising for you and bring their friends.
you get to enjoy the rewards- and the fag breaks!.
good luck!

hi muckymurphy i take every thing that you say on board and one thing i do agree on is getting dj shy girl out there .she as her own set up but its a partner ship we have. i hate it wen you go to some pubs and ther is dead air betwen tracks. or you just no that its a play list thats been put on with 2 djs there is none of that .i have tryed to get her to go out but cant i.e thats why i gave her the name shygirl she is one of the best lady djs that i have ever worked with .but she as her own mind like any other dj. but thank you for your imput i can only improve i hope you welcome any time to come and see me shane...............thank dj soulreaver
