I have AVG 8.5 the Free version, and all my components are working except I keep being told that my Update Manager has failed. What does this mean and how can I rectify it ?

It means the update of the definitions has failed (probably due to heavy server load).

Manually updating should/may fix it.

Just right click on the AVG icon at bottom right of your screen and click on Update - this should do the trick.

I clicked on your link then clicked on AVG but cannot find anywhere on the page to download it.

After clicking on the AVG icon the screen changes and on the top right there is a green box, at the side of it it says download latest version.

Just now it says its up and running but its not on my Desktop as an icon. Still the old 8.5. one on my destop !:huh:

Im not sure, read my post below.:) Just had another message popping up on my right saying the update has failed. Dont know whether Im coming or going.:(

I will go back to your link above and do what you say.

It will not download onto my desktop . No icon there. Will have to leave it. I still have the 8.5. version

Its giving me a flippin headache. There will be something Ive not clicked on.:loopy: Im leaving it now. Ive nearly set a blinking frying pan on fire, and now the smoke alarms gone off, trying to mess about with it.:loopy:

AVG has got a pretty poor track record with their (free) update server (a victim of it's own - original - success).
