I am involved in an exhibition and I want to make a 3D bottle out of paper. I have a photo of the sort of thing I want but I am having trouble making a pattern to cut it out. I am sure its a fairly simple job, but I have been trying to work it out for the past three months and I only have two weeks left to produce it!

Can anyone help me out?

What's so complicated?

What's the exhibition?

How 'round' does it need to be?

more info please ;)

(I'm a CAD operator BTW :) )

I used to be a sheet metal worker, and the bible was a book called The Geometry of Sheet Metalwork by A Dickason, all the patterns could be reproduced onto paper/card, with the use of a compass and set square (or reproduced onto autocad). All sheetmetal workers would use pattern development to produce many of the intricate shapes of fabrications from flat surfaces, and this would enable you to produce a 3d model. There was a copy of the book in Sheffield Library some years ago, worth checking.

Received thanks

you could post your picture link on this thread too ;)

I'll see if I can knock something together easily on Autocad and send you a j-peg or bitmap of it, but if it gets complicated I'll have to wuss out ;)

I'll look this weekend :)

Hexagon bottom? Six panels and a cylinder on top.

Easy peasy!

Go to it Strixy!!

Here's one I made earlier! (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y28/cgksheff/Sheffield%20Forum/bottle.jpg) :D

I'm sure that you will get something more professional, usable and to scale from Strixy!

Of course it needs that 5mm vertical bit at the bottom, and the slight shoulder before the neck for maximum 3d effect ;)

Considering forgetting about the rings round the neck though :suspect:
