The Bathfield pub on St Philips Road has been boarded up for ages but I noticed yesterday that the boards have come off, though the place is still surrounded by metal fences. Anybody know what's happening to it?

Anybody know what's happening to it? depoix 18-08-2005, 14:02 did hear it was going to be made into flats, cant swear to it though goldenfleece 18-08-2005, 15:52 Thats not the one off Glossop Road is it, or is that the Bath Hotel or something...... metalman 18-08-2005, 18:29 No it's the one in Upperthorpe, just up the road from Tesco's. Years ago I used to enjoy the occasional chilli burger and chips in there at lunchtime, though I must admit it always struck me as a bit of a seedy pub. Be a shame if it became yet more luxury apartments though. Actually I don't know whether it's just me, but I seem to detect a more threatening atmosphere around there these days, once all the flats and so on had been done up, than there seemed to be years ago; maybe I'm just getting older though. cgksheff 18-08-2005, 18:43 Does this (http://libplugins.sheffield.gov.uk/planning/details.asp?id=9336) look like it? A.B.Yaffle 18-08-2005, 23:44 The Bathfield is on the corner of Powell Street and St Philips Rd. I've noticed they have un-boarded the doors and windows. I hope they turn it into apartments rather than re-open it as a pub again... the last 2 incarnations of the pub attracted undesirables. craig3636 20-08-2005, 20:41 i had many a good night in the bathfield back in the mid 80's this is the pub back in it's hey day. http://www.sheffieldpubs.fsnet.co.uk/Business/pubs/bathfield.htm A.B.Yaffle 20-08-2005, 21:17 They've boarded it all up again now, but with wood instead of those metal grids. royjames 21-08-2005, 00:40 This was my local till they boarded it up,mind you it did get some undesirables who used to hang around outside the place. Now we have to go up the road to the star and garter or down the road to the white heart. Its a hard life. :heyhey: metalman 21-08-2005, 10:45 Never even dared to go into the White Hart because it looked worse than the Bathfield... metalman 17-11-2005, 16:22 Looks as though I can now answer my own question... they've spent all this week knocking it down. Nothing left now but a pile of rubble. A.B.Yaffle 17-11-2005, 17:38 Went out with camera on Sunday to get pics of the half-standing pub, for nostalgia. Does anyone know what they are going to build on the land yet? craig3636 17-11-2005, 18:15 what a daft question, what do they normally build when they knock something down..........more flipping flats, sorry, appartments':D metalman 17-11-2005, 19:18 You're nearly there, I think the officially approved phrase is 'luxury apartments'. A.B.Yaffle 17-11-2005, 19:22 Originally posted by metalman You're nearly there, I think the officially approved phrase is 'luxury apartments'. .... or student digs? ;) I'm surprised there haven't been any notices about, regarding planning permission etc. like there were with Jolly Buffer and Rolling Mill at Broomhall. holberry 17-11-2005, 19:23 hi re/ the bathfield pub I was amazed to read from fellow forum members that its being demolished when it was built the original bathfield stood on the opposite corner of powell st / st philips road it was known locally as minskys after the landlord further up was the pub where I was born the weston park hotel corner of summer st / st philips road between the bathfield and the star & garter the weston was demolished when I was 6 or 7 my dad then took the don inn penistone rd now demolished the he was the first landlord of the boomerang fawcett st which is now student flats , well at this rate not belong before we run out of pubs altogether ! larven 22-11-2005, 14:13 A new 3 storey building is going on the former Bathfield site containing 9 student apartments and communal gardens. |
