No problems here. Good install, broadband speed great and cable TV box fine.

Spot on, i get up to 20 meg broadband, x large tv, plus all sky sports channels and ESPN channels for 61 quid a month, i reckon you would be paying a lot more to sky for that little lot.

My friend is on Virgin and he's got nothing bad to say about them. Never seems to have any problems. Nice and fast and customer service is good too.

Customer service is a joke, they're happy to lie and misinform and basically fob you off so you keep paying as long as possible.

My broadband went down to under 30kb/s for 6 months due to oversubscription and they lied through their teeth for the entire time. In the end I had to get the ISPA onto them to get the problem resolved (a problem entirely of their own making).

So in essence, it's a decent service when it's working, but if it isn't be prepared to enter a world of pain.

I have been satisfied since I went with them three years ago.

I have to say if there is one downside its the customer service on the phone which is really poor.
It's as if the telephonists are paid for how much they can confuse you and how long they can keep you on the phone lol.

No probs here - very fast, reliable connection to t'internet.

It depends where you are and (not least due to that) whether you'll be on cable or not - also what services you want. This may (www.thinkbroadband.com) help - the forums especially. Broadband is p*ss-poor on non-cable in S8 - a supposed 1 Mbps service delivering under a tenth of that at present - and the link shouldn't be constrained for any reason other than, perhaps, contention. This is a regular problem too.

Yep, exactly the same thing happened to me, and I had to complain in the same way to get anything done. :rant:

The problem is they're selling the 50mb service uncapped, and some users (mostly 'multiple occupancy houses with young people in them' ) are abusing the service and torrenting 24/7, leaving the service unusable for others.

Of course it's mainly Virgin's fault for over selling the bandwidth, but it doesn't help that some users act like they're entitled to eat every bit of pizza at an all-you-can eat restaurant, leaving crumbs for the other customers.

well i think there service is much better than say 2-3 years ago an the tv on demand iss better than skys!!!!

Does anyone have virgin broadband down their phoneline as opposed to their cable version, if so, what is it like?

yes there quite good even there cheapest 10 meg is good enough really for day to day use of internet

friend of mine as bt broadband and that runs slow as hell i mean really slow i did i speed check and he was getting just over 1 meg lol dont no what he pays to get but its basicly unusable

Hello - I was with Virgin for years then one day I could not connect, tried all the usual stuff checking passwords and software etc, in the end I gave up and rang Virgin, they suggested all the checks I had already done and finally did a line check which suggested a line problem at their end. Three weeks later and numerous phonecalls and they still could not connect me, I switched account to BT and they fixed it in an hour!

The 50mbps service is on its own network, and won't affect the 'regional' services, 10mbps or 20mbps services..

my 50mbps service operates at full speed all the time, the last test I did I was on 49.8mbps (www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk)

Virgin is ok as long as you are not going to be downloading heavy, or filesharing. They are one of the only ISP's in the UK that monitor what you do.

There speeds maybe fast but only when it works and if you dont download too much. As I download heavily (1tb/month) i'll be staying with be, who offer true unlimited downloads and dont snoop on you.

I jsut did that test Ghozer and got 9768 kbps/1.22MB download. *technophobe alert* Is that good or bad? :huh:

I cant say I have a problem with VM - when they go wrong they go wrong - recent powercut in the Shiregreen/Southy area caused all service loss for 30 mins - not to bad you say - 4 days later the phone system comes back all the while VM insisted nothing was wrong in the area - personally I think the CS i was speaking to couldn't answer my question as it wasn't on the script ;)
