Has anyone ever had an auction company / house collect furniture or possible antiques from their property? I am thinking of doing this in the near future. Can anyone recommend a good auction house? I have looked into a couple.

Will I have to wrap items up for collection and pack carefully? Or will they pack items when they look at my stuff? Sorry to be so thick? Will they charge me a fortune to collect items :help:

Did you manage sell your house items ?

I'm looking to sell a lot of furniture and items due to moving to a smaller house. Is this what you did ? Successful ? If so, who did you go with and what advice can you give ?

I ended up taking a lot of the medium sized items to car boot sales and i did 5 or 6 of these. Ebay helped get rid of several items. I have kept smaller more valuable items at my new house to auction one day. I employed house clearers in the end to get rid of larger items of furniture and they ended up charging me £200 as there was a lot of stuff! I considered auctions houses but problems like charges to get items there and fears of items not selling when they got there put me off. I'd even got an appointment for Paul...........the Auctioneer at Thryberg to come and value and collect items(can't remeber the name now.... but it is in the yellow pages) but cancelled it as I needed to get rid of the items quickly and I didn't want them hanging around at an auction house waiting to sell. There were a couple of items that I could have hung onto to sell or put aside for the auction house but it was getting to be more trouble than it was worth. ELR auction house at Sheffield was recommended to me and I might use that in the future for smaller items. Hope this helps
