I've connected an Andrea external USB sound card to my pc but can't get cd/dvd sounds through to the speakers.

PC sounds are OK (eg windows startup, beeps etc) so I don't think it's anything to do with the cabling/connctions.

If I try to play a dvd the background music for the menu plays fine, but once I try to play the film itself the sound goes off.

Audio CDs won't play at all (although the cd player display looks as though it's playing it).

I have separate CD & DVD drives and get the same problem with both.

The sound card has an output plug and a microphone plug - I've not got a mic connected, just speakers in the out plug.

Any ideas?
thanks

Do you have an audio cable coming from your cd/dvd drive to your motherboard?

Are you using XP Or win98?

Not sure where to look for the audio cable!
I've tried uninstalling and re-installing the hardware drivers again - everything seems to go ok - it lists the Andrea device in the audio settings but cd's still won't play. PC sounds are ok though.
It's windows 2000 - any ideas anyone?

If you have the audio cable connected you will have 3 cablles coming from the DVD drive. The IDE ribbon cable, the power cable and a thin cable (which is the audio one) If you don't have one then you can get one from most little computer shops or Maplins.
