BRAYDEN 23-02-2010, 15:11 no as she is in a breeding tank where the babys drop through the bottom Gemima 23-02-2010, 15:13 Yep the other fish will gobble them up which is sad, but thats life. The only way to successfully breed is to have a breeding tank or to buy one of those little "fry nurseries" that attach to the side of the tank and confine the fry as long as they are not to small to escape it. I had mollies who produced around 50 babies and even with the nursery, they managed to escape and were gobbled by the other fish. oops we posted at the same time and I just read your reply. I am not sure how many babies guppies have tbh? EmilyM 23-02-2010, 15:33 I think guppies have anything up to 50 babies, it depends on the mother's size. I once put a pregnant guppy in a floating plastic 'nursery' tank. She had about 20 babies. I came back from work one day to find our female fighter fish inside the nursery tank, and no babies left. The fighter fish had managed to jump in and eat all the babies. Also the angel fishes used to try to eat the baby guppies, but they couldn't get to them. I'd like to get some more guppies, I've neglected the tropical fishtank for a while, we've just got a 10-inch plec, silver shark (about 5 inches), catfishes and a few barbs left now. daznat 23-02-2010, 17:02 my guppys had babys last week and she only had 15 and another one had 12 i put the mother in a 5 liter tank and just left her to it and she was giveing birth for about a hour she has got to feel comfortable the can keep giveing birth 28 days after for 3month 5 liter tank for sale cums with heater pump and light gravel and a rock call or pm me 07510242992 Hobbit 23-02-2010, 20:17 We had breeding guppies and it can be a job to spot the young at first because they're so tiny. We'd normally get between 4 and 20 at a time (not sure if they were all from one female though). It's true that the other fish will gobble them up pretty quickly though. EmilyM 24-02-2010, 11:50 I like baby guppies, they look like little fruit flies when they're first born. Joto 24-02-2010, 12:06 I like baby guppies, they look like little fruit flies when they're first born. We used to have guppies Emily, all we had were plants and ornaments for them to hide in. They are good at hiding in the gravel at the bottom too, so you'll have to be careful when you syphon the dirty water off the bottom. In the past we've took dozens to the pet shop, they usually gave us another adult fish in return. The female guppy has at least a dozen I think, I had several guppies having them at the same time, so it's hard to tell. They can have them over several days, in fact they can even delay having them while the environment is right. Google guppies, there is lots of websites out there to help you, and by the way aren't those male guppies a pest, they never leave the females alone, just one thing on their minds like our males. :hihi: EmilyM 24-02-2010, 13:55 I don't think baby guppies would survive in my tank with the plec. He is at least 10 inches long now, I haven't measured him for a while. He eats any dead fish if I don't get them out straightaway. When I had guppies they never seemed to last for long. I might try some more now the tank is well established, its been set up for over 2 years now. BRAYDEN 24-02-2010, 17:33 .i bought my guppies of ebay a lady at chesterfield; i gave £4.20 for 15 of them I3lade4life 24-02-2010, 19:31 I dont think your plec would even look twice at a guppy. They arent predatory fish and usually only eat algae. Theyre biggest worry would be the plec flapping its tail near them and killing them that way chaliesmate 24-02-2010, 19:56 ive a few female guppies too and can tell when they are pregnant only thing is we get babies and yes, other fish sooner or later get to them and if its not the fish supper its the filters that seem to suck them in! weve only had this problem though with the big tank when it was the smaller one they bred and survived fine! we have a box which you clip to side of tank to keep fry in but i found a couple of my larger fish dead and trapped behind it overnight so i dont like using it mcoskun52 21-03-2010, 20:00 If its her first birth. she can have only a few. so 1 is possible. 25-30 days later you will have more. My guppy gave birth to 6 fries first time. Second time the number was 37. mcoskun 19-09-2010, 15:32 if its the firts birth only one is possible. |
