Is their career in a slump at the moment and they need a rise perhaps?

Give it to 'Me First and the Gimme Gimme's' if anyone, perlease!

Disgraceful isn't it!

Although another funny one was where Ronan Keating asked Noel Gallagher to cover Cigarettes & Alcohol!!

I'll leave it up to you to guess what the reaction was!!!!

FFS!

McFly sucks.. Crap boybands are all rubbish IMO, the only reason they get sales is cos fickle teenage lasses fancy them or some other daftness...

And anyone who allowed the Crazy Frog of all things to make #1 in the charts, is clearly too stupid to be allowed to take money into Woolworths or any other record shop. :loopy:

Obviously and Room on the Third Floor were class tracks. Although, I agree, they should stick to their own stuff, not do covers.

I quite liked their attempt. I have heard a lot worse. The original is one of my favourite songs and I thought it was brave of them to do it.

As for McFly, ok it's not cool to like them but don't knock it till you hear it.

If you want to be taken seriously as having any sort of musical taste WHATSOEVER, I'd keep very quiet about that, if I were you.

Some things are just not acceptable.

You'll be having John Peel (RIP) turning in his grave.

To be honest I don't give a monkeys what people think of my musical taste. I like what I like, my preference isn't restricted by any particlular genre. Why should I have to be quiet about it?

I doubt very much the great John Peel would be turning in his grave just because I expressed an opinion.

Because you're showing yourself up as having a terminal lack of taste.

The mere thought that anyone - never mind a crappy boyband - could think they could get away with covering an eternal classic like "Teenage Kicks" would make anyone who cares anything about music shudder.

If you can't see that..... there's nothing I can say.

Just realised I can't spell allowed properly. fooL! :P

I just think they are terrible. They are good for kids i suppose as thats all their fan base is. They have "written" some songs but it's just kids pop. If anyone calls them a guitar band then they don't know the meaning of the word. Just a kids pop group like S Club 7 but play the odd G or D chord on a guitar.

That is proud, coming from a Manic Street Preacher fan :gag:

Well I did like Take Thats version of Dan Hartman's relight my fire.

Does that mean I no have taste ?

Well, if Rolf Harris can cover 'Stairway To Heaven', I suppose anything is allowed.

The cover version I would like to hear would be a classical tenor, plus Cecilia Bartoli singing Eminem's 'Under The Influence'

I like you, Venger, so I'll completely ignore your first sentence.

I didn't suggest no-one should ever do a cover version - just that some songs so belong to one band and are so much part of music's heritage that for someone else to try to cover them is to display a total lack of respect.

Take That actually improved on the Dan Hartman song - not that that was difficult. :D

I totally stand by my comments re "Teenage Kicks" - that anyone could have the brass nerve to even THINK of 're-doing' such a work of art is beyond me.

:P OK, so I was probing for a reaction :P

I stand by what I previously said about it being covered by the gimme gimmies if anyone of a punk'ish' persuasion.

Some things are best left though :) (agreed)

I think people are overly harsh on McFly. Are they truly manufactured? I don't know. Can anyone verify whether they're not just a group of mates who started a band? They do have talent, they can sing and they do sing live. Don't be fooled into bracketing them alongside boybands who mime. They're very beach boys sounding, i think their only problem (albeit quite a large one) is that people have heard this sort of music before, and it was done better. But what most of you lot don't seem to remember is that younger people haven't had such exposure to this sort of music before.

Oh dear should I admit this. I'm going to see them at the Hallam FM Arena in September ... but I am taking pre-teenage daughter with me ... it's her who wants to see them really, not me - honest!!

I DARE you to say that in front of Brian Wilson! They sound nothing like them! That's all they are a boy band with guitars for a kids audience. Fair play if they like them, cos thats whats they are aimed at. They would be nobody if kids didnt want them for their records. It's pop rubbish....as I say for the young ones. A very marketing thing to make easy money. Look at S Club 7, Steps et al!

Ok.
I'm going to hold my hand up and admit that I quite like McFly!

My ex boyfriend's little girl was a fan so she used to play them. For pop they are not bad. Ton's better than Westlurge and Boyzzzzzz and Girl's shouldn't be aloud. They play and compose their own stuff and all of the band are musicians and not just there for show - do you hear that Mark Owen?:suspect: .

I won tickets on Hallam f.m. to see them last year - went for something to do - and out of all the gigs i went to last year, it was the best show! I went to see Stereophonics a week later (my favourites) and they looked shattered -(the worst gig of theirs i've been to- found out they were hungover next day) whereas Mcfly had so much energy. They did Pinball wizard there and i've also heard them do it on either Jon Ross or Frank Skinner and it's really not that bad!

No, just no.

For God sake it's bad enough they're covering Queen

If they have to cover someone, let them do somebody crap like Jimmy "I sing like a woman" Sommerville.
