Has anyone been to either of these places in the last month? Were either of them any good?

Depends what you want from a pub. Never had a problem with the beer or wine quality. Not tatty. Real local pubs. Not loud music jukebox type places. Conversation usually flowing and I have never felt intimidated in either even when been awaiting at the bar for my girly friends to turn up.

wouldn't recommend food in the Cricket Inn, nice place but food sounds good but you get little for your money and it took over an hour for food to arrive, so would never eat there again.

Thanks for these, just seen the review in the Star for The Devonshire - 3 Stars is that good or bad, didn't sound awful!

Food at the Dev Arms is expensive though they do have a new chef so it should be good.

There is the Hare & Hounds across the road. Again good service, good beer not a tatty pub. Food is of the more processed variety but reasonably priced and very edible.

If your in that area I'd strongly recommend you give the Door Moor Inn a try. Similar to the Dev and the Hare and Hounds, but the food is EXCELLENT and the staff are great too.

Cricket Inn:

1 Pint Bitter & 1/2 pint of lager

£4.20 is pretty standard for a pint and a half.

If you want cheap drinks, you should try a Wetherspoons pub. The Cricket Inn has done really well recently and when I've been there, apart from the taxi fare, I couldn't fault it.

No need to to go to Wetherspoons cattlemarket for cut priced beer as all the Sheffield "Pub Of The Month" places - Fat Cat, Dev Cat, Sheaf View, Hillsborough Hotel, Gardeners Rest, Kelham Island Tavern serve the highest quality beers for under £3.00 for a pint and a half.

Sorry - it just annoys me when people go somewhere or try something new and they can't get past prices. I know they matter, everyone knows it. when someone asks what is it like in _______?

The answer should be something like "it's nice and cosy, comfortable surroundings, friendly staff and good service even if the drinks were a little pricey".

not "£4.20 for a pint and a half."

Is that the only thing you've got to say about the 2 different pubs in question?

Ahh if only all that were true. Sadly it is now a former favourite pub of ours that we're unlikely to make the effort to visit again.

BTW thanks for the lesson on how to post to SF!

Better than being mugged by the Landlord, at least I can fight back.

Goodbye dear thread...

I dropped by the Dev mid week and a pint and a half of 4% handpulled was now £4.95. I think my first car cost less than that.

I also visited the Cricket for a bar meal. Whilst the food was very nice, I've had far better in Debyshire for far less money.
