Plumbing: After reading recommendations for G&D plumbers on here, I called them for a small emergency job in February. They came over the same morning, did the work, put up with my bad mood (I was poorly in a way that isn't ideal when your water is turned off) with good humour, and charged a very reasonable amount. I would use them again in an instant.

Hiya - I have recently had a new bathroom designed and fitted and would def recommend Rowland Property Services (Andy Rowland).

It was a complete re-design and rebuild, including stripping the whole bathroom right back to the bricks. Andy dealt with all the issues that naturally arise when you are doing work on an old house and didn't make it feel like a problem for us. He's also very considerate about keeping the rest of the house clean and tidy so the whole place wasn't trashed while the work was going on!

The finished bathroom is so lovely it feels like a showroom, and we were very happy with the quality of the work. I know it's hard to find a good builder that you can trust so I thought it was worth posting the recommendation for other forum users...

My mother in law has just used a company to buy her house as times are hard lets say, They come and valued the house and made her a offer , she accepted there offer and it wasnt to much under the valution price . If you need a bathroom fitter, I'd recommend Sam Lovatt (07909 842848 ), a good standard of workmanship from start to finish. Sam takes great pride (which is justified) in his work.

Another recommendation here for Sam Lovatt. Came quickly to install my dishwasher, and even though it was a lot bigger job than originally thought he still didn't charge me extra than what was quoted (which was an excellent price in the 1st place).

We've just had some work done on our lounge in our new victorian property. It's a large room which had old horse hair plaster on the walls which was crumbling away.
He's knocked it back to brick, reboarded and plastered it whilst managing to salvage the old coving and restore it for us. It looks really good and we're really pleased with the work....plus he's tidy, honest and a nice guy! I'd recommend him to anyone.

I phoned around for a few plumbers, none of whom could come out today. I then found a post recommending Dan so gave him a call this morning. He was here within a few minutes, and isolated the tap. It gave me time to find a new tap today, he came back tonight and fitted the new tap.

He is a lovely friendly guy, and very reasonably priced, will definitely recommend him. We've talked to him re other work we want doing around the house, like fitting a new bathroom etc, and will definitely get him to do it.

About 6 years ago I had some new windows put in by two lady builders/joiners and an attic conversion. They were first class and I would like them to do some more work but I have lost their contact details. As someone else has said Eric really is the real deal and so are his workmen. Polite, helpful and good at their work. Eric coordinated everything for us- they came when they said they would got on with the job and completed the work on time. At last a really positive experience with a builder!

I would just like to add some comments on a gardener who i use, (STERI) paul, who is very good at his job,very reliable, a good grafter he's also done some painting & decorating for me i use him on a regular basis to cut my lawn & hedges i know other people use him off the forum aswell.

Just used a plumber called Oliver Baird (07867 958487). I was very impressed. He was reliable, knowledgeable and informative, and did a good job.

Also, my wife was very impressed with him when he came round to look at the problem with our boiler (free of charge) because he immediately showed his ID badge etc through the glass of our front door.

He was always very friendly, knowledgable, approachable and helpful with any queries we had. The end result was exactly what we wanted and was delivered on time and at a very good price.

I phoned around for a few plumbers, none of whom could come out today. I then found a post recommending Dan so gave him a call this morning. He was here within a few minutes, and isolated the tap. It gave me time to find a new tap today, he came back tonight and fitted the new tap.

He is a lovely friendly guy, and very reasonably priced, will definitely recommend him. We've talked to him re other work we want doing around the house, like fitting a new bathroom etc, and will definitely get him to do it.

People are always quick to complain about bad service but don't always give credit when its due, so I wanted to make sure that this time I did pass on the details of a company that had provided me with excellent service. Hopefully this will also help others.

I recently took my car to Bridgehouse Garage on the outskirts of Barlborough, just outside Renishaw. They fitted me in at short notice as I had realised that my MOT had just run out. They were helpful and reassuring right from the start and when the car failed the MOT they carefully explained all of my options. I chose to have them do the work and re-test the car and it turned out to be an excellent decision.

They completed the work very quickly and were willing to make arrangements for me to pick the car up after work. I was also satisfied with the price they charged which was very reasonable. It was about a 1/3 of the price my dad thought that they would charge me.

I can thoroughly recommend this garage and they are in the Good Garage scheme as well. They are a little outside of Sheffield but I live in S2, not far from Granville Road, and was there in 20 minutes. It would also be close for those in the Westfield/Mosborough end of town.

Happy to recommend Ziggy42 (man and van) who posts on here. Called him yesterday to transport some soil to one of my customers. It was there today, no fuss. Good price too

I have fitted a few in my time, but am probably too busy at the moment to take any more work on. However, here is a bit of advice. Ensure that the manufacturers instructions are followed carefully. The wet walling I have installed recently has needed to be fitted behind the shower enclosure, therefore making the job longer and more involved as it would need to be removed and re-fitted. Its a while since I have fitted the plastic sheets but would think this too needs similar attention. The wet walling is very expensive and any errors in cutting can be very costly.

All I would say is check the installation recommendations and make sure the fitter has experience fitting it.

Do not waste your time on GT Roofing - didn't even turn up on two separate occasions and no 'phone call to explain why!

Unprofessional isn't the word - do they want the money or not!? Can't believe the Sixer magazine lets in these amateurs.

On a separate note, can highly recommend SAG (Seamless Aluminium Guttering). Good customer service, turn up when they say they will and finish off the job to a high level.

If anyone needs any building work doing then Whitecliffes are well worth a look. From top to bottom this company was genuinely the real deal. Eric, the boss, was excellent in helping us sort through what really needed doing on our place (unlike most builders he didn't try to sell any exras or suggest that we do things that really didn't need doing). The quotes were competitive and their work was top notch. The guys on site were the most polite and clean builders I think I have ever met. just a quick note to say if anyone if thinking of getting new windows i would highly recommend warrick windows in ecclesfield, great prices cost £260 for 2 big windows with all the trimmings, called me to tell me down to the hours what time they will deliver and the delivery was even free! great company.

I used these about 10 years ago if it's the company that's based down at Butterthwaite Lane. They came up with the best price and never once hassled me, even chucked in free lead on my cottage windows.

Totally agree Chris, highly recommended and no I don't work for them or get commission. I just believe in shouting out good companies in this area, that know how to look after customers.

We recently had a downstairs loo put in and we can't recommend Sam from Dearne Plumbing and Jim the joiner from JB Properties enough. Totally stress free experience. Sam spent ages researching the right solution for us but was always happy to discuss other options too.

I second the recommendation for Sam Lovatt of Dearne Plumbing. Have used him twice now to sort a shower and a broken tap, and he's terrific. Makes a real effort to explain what's needed (in simple terms to a complete DIY-phobe like me), gives great advice over the phone, is completely reliable, does the job quickly with excellent results, no fuss, and at reasonable cost. Just come back from signing the contracts for our new house! Got to recommend Coates in Mosborough. We went with them based on all the recommendations on the forum and I cannot recommend them highly enough!
They have completed our sale in 5 weeks!!! more impressive however is the fact that they were either always available to take a call or got back to us and chased up our query within the same day. Kept us informed at every stage. They also have a real down to earth approach and nothing was a problem for them. Its a mother and daughter small business and having used larger firms for previous sales I would recommend these guys hands down.

We had our bathroom refurbished, everything ripped out including old tiles and a new shower/toilet and sink fitted. Andy and his colleagues did a brilliant job, our bathroom has turned out great, we are very pleased with the work and they were also nice people to have around, always helpful, patient and accomodating and just getting on with their work. There wasn't much space for them to do their work and our bathroom is only small, less than 2x2m so the working conditions were at times quite challenging and naturally, with an older house they hit quite a few problems but despite that did not loose their spirits and good humour, so thanks for that!
They do all sorts of jobs around the house and garden (practically everyting apart from roofs) and we would definitely employ them again for another job!

I too would recommend Andy of Rowland Property Services, an all round good guy. He did our bathroom, very nice it was too. He has also recently gone out of his way to help when I had a plumbing scare (not a tap he fitted) when my tap decided to turn on but not off. Despite having a long hard day he was straight round as soon as he could and sorted it for me.

We would like to recommend Neville Of Weldon Works.Got his details from the forum, just similar to few others. Neville decorated our lounge & fitted our laminate flooring & did an excellent job of it.We are also currently having works done by a building company. We would never have seen few very important things which the builders missed, had it not been for Neville's attention to detail & we are very thankful to him for that.It would have been very easy for a tradesperson like him to badmouth the other builder, but Neville refrained from doing that,which is an admirable quality.He is knowledgeable,hard working,trustworthy, on time & clears up after his work (which is rare). Through you lovely people on here I found out about the best boiler engineer IN THE WORLD!! (in my opinion!). He's called Steve and is a member called corgigasman, and I found out about him because he was recommended in another thread.

Not only is he a really fantastic tradesman, he's also a lovely bloke too. He was on time, did over and above what he quoted us for, was clean and tidy, and even took away the old boiler! He was so good that we'll definitely be giving him a call if we have any plumbing or heating needs in future, be sure to look him up if you have any too, we highly recommend him.

He hung three internal doors for me last week, plus put new skirting in an awkwardly shaped bay window.

We used EASYSPARES AND REPAIRS when our tumble dryer conked out. They came out, took a look at it and were really honest with us. They said it wasnt worth repairing and didnt charge for the call out.
I would recommend to anyone who needs a domestic appliance fixing.

I second the recommendation for Sam Lovatt of Dearne Plumbing. Have used him twice now to sort a shower and a broken tap, and he's terrific. Makes a real effort to explain what's needed (in simple terms to a complete DIY-phobe like me), gives great advice over the phone, is completely reliable, does the job quickly with excellent results, no fuss, and at reasonable cost. Sorry you feel this way. I found your appliance partially stripped on my arrival (cover off and no securing screws evident). It WAS working 'hit and miss' and the 'generic' part I was supplied proved a miss-fit, as I explained. Having e-mailed the manufacturer (Ariston), I have not gained a response and therefore unable to offer further assistance. I believe I left the appliance 'safe' ie isolated, as it was not in a safe working condition, I thought you understood this at the time. I can explain how to put your boiler back to a 'working condition AS FOUND' if you contact me...but it will be the 'hit and miss' state I described earlier, and at your own risk. Sorry for any misunderstanding, Steve

For windows 100% FORD WINDOWS..a big deffinate - would never go anywhere else - based in darnall , their factorys on site so cheap as chips!

we just had a complete bathroom refurbwith the room back down to bare brick etc and used chris shephard plumbing from woodseats who did a truly awesome job! however we bought nearly everything from the bathstore and chris did have problems with some of the stuff which was one to the quality of the equipment been a bit ropey!

We used Sam Lovatt (07909 842 848) a week ago and we're really happy with our new shower and tiling. Good quality work at a fair price. I'm guessing the plastering was done by Matt Darcy which was also very good.

I'm going to recommend forum user Greengeek (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/member.php?u=19601) who came round to look at my lack of internet access. He diagnosed the problem more or less straight away. It was Sky's router that had broken.

He wouldn't accept any payment because he hadn't been able to sort the problem himself. He also offered to talk to Sky on our behalf after they argued the toss with us for 45 minutes claiming the router was fine.

He was right, they were wrong!

I'd like to recommend Wayne whose name I was given on recommendation from a friend. I have recently had a big extension on my house and Wayne did all the joinery work including hanging me 5 doors, fitting laminate flooring, fitting shelving into my alcoves and he did all the skirting for me. As far as I am concerned, time is not an issue. I would never want anyone to rush a job just so they finish when they said they were going to do so. Anyone rushing will either make mistakes or the finish would be sub standard. Just need to find you another project now :hihi:
