Kristian 16-08-2005, 23:19 Oooh, that scared me! When I read serious I was thinking intensive care....
Get well soon Madge!
"Madonna fell off a new horse she was riding at Ashcombe House"
Well...
Hmm. Wasn't that serious, was it? Now, your Rik Mayall/Ozzy Osbourne quad bike crashes, they were serious.
Errr, excuse me. We're not talking about any old Madonna here.
It's not 'a' Madonna.. It's the Madonna!
Please show a little more respect.

BoroughGal 17-08-2005, 00:21 Cracked ribs eh? I wondered why I'd never seen Savbaby and Madonna in the room at the same time.....
"I hear your voice, it’s like an angel sighing...
I have no choice, I hear your voice
Feels like flying
I close my eyes, oh God I think I’m falling...
Out of the sky, I close my eyes
Heaven help me"
Thank you Madonna for showing the way!
(feeling quite religious tonight)
There ain't no dispespect, I have a very healthy respect for Madonna. But I wouldn't call her injuries serious, and Fareast showed concern for the horse.

I thought she liked to be called Muriel or something since she "found" (another) religion ?
Oh for god's sake.
How many people fall off horse's every day?
Get a grip, it's not like she's having to cancel tours or anything.
I wish her well in her recovery, but it's not exactly newsworthy.
uncleheed 17-08-2005, 09:00 Its not exactly in the Chrisopher Reeve bracket is it.

I think you may find that's Condoleza Rice, unfortunately.

muddycoffee 17-08-2005, 11:36 Like I said on another thread,
aside from ripping out her throat, breaking a few ribs is a damn fine way of getting her to shut up.
Maybe she thought she was so important that she should sing to the horse to make it go faster, and the horse had some musical taste and tried to kill her.
I am about to start a collection for the horse, maybe it'll finish the job next time..
skyfitsboy 17-08-2005, 12:52 I'm talking about within the world of entertainment, hence being posted in the entertainment section of the Sheffield Forum, as far as I know Condoleza Rice doesn't fall into this category and your daft if ya think more people know who she is!
So Madonna has had no influence on popular culture, fashion, music videos, live concerts, self-empowerment, sexuality, even spirituality?! ok, thanks for letting me know!
Wishing anyone to have their throat ripped out is just sick, what is wrong with people on this forum?!

Whoah - chill boy, I can only respond to what you post, and you posted this:

If you'd have qualified your point, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

So true !
How has a post about Madonna falling off a horse descending into threats to rip out throats so quickly? My, we are a ratty bunch today.
Like it or not Madonna is very influential, so her falling off a horse is very news worthy. If it wasn't we wouldn't be talking about it. And it's obviously relevent to everyone who has posted on this thread, otherwise why would you bother reading the thread in the first place.
So stop bickering! :nono:
As for her injuires, it sounds like she got away relatively lightly. But horse riding is one of the most dangerous sports in the world, so when you make a decision to mount a horse you are aware you are taking a risk.
Now lets be nice to Madonna. She's feeling poorly. GET WELL MADONNA!

She's not here, JBee. She hasn't joined yet. :|
muddycoffee 17-08-2005, 13:09 I think she was very influencial many years ago but she hasn't done anything worthy of note for a decade or more. She should have quit while she was ahead.

Horseriding? Sport?
It is no more a sport than climbing up the stairs. Horse racing is a sport.. Is catching a bus to work a sport? Riding a horse is similar to owning and riding a motorcycle. Not really a sport, just enthusiast transport.

How do you know...? :suspect:
We're all annoymous. I could be Britney Spears for all the rest of you know! :D
(I'm not, BTW, but I wouldn't mind looking like her. Before she went all trailer trash and got up the duff, obviously!)

Maybe if you are riding whilst B.A.S.E. jumping or the like lol [/B][/QUOTE]
Nope. Statistically it's one of the most dangerous sports. They rate things not according to the number of injuires, but the level of seriousness and number of deaths. The most common injuries caused by falling from a horse are back and neck, which rate high on the seriousness scale. Paralysis is often the result of a fall from a horse, and deaths are common too.
I can't remember the whole 'world's most dangerous sports' list, but believe it or not rugby is at the top. Again - I think it's because the number of back and neck injuries are so high.

I like this comment. I don't agree with it, but the phrase about enthusiast transport made me laugh. In a good way
What happens if you're riding round in a circle then, and not actually getting anywhere? Is that still transport? ;)
It is a sport though. Most riders compete is some way or another, be it show jumping, eventing (the most dangerous), dressage, showing, endurance ect. ect.
The English Dictionary defines 'Sport' as: 1, physical activity, especially outdoor, for exercise or recreation. 2, Game with set rules. 3, Fun. 4, Fair minded person with a sense of fun.
Difficult to find official sources:
World's Most Dangerous Sports
1. BASE Jumping - BASE stands for Building, Antennnae, Span and Earth - these being the fixed objects that masters of this incredibly dangerous sport jump from. BASE jumpers will jump with a parachute off any tall structure including skyscrapers, electrical towers, bridges and cliffs. In the past, BASE jumpers have lept from the Golden Gate Bridge, the Eiffel Tower and the Empire State Building. People who try this sport almost always end up arrested (it's not exactly legal) and some don't even live long enough to get arrested. (We told you it was dangerous.) Stick to lawn bowling.
2. Free Diving - Divers will plunge up to 400 feet (120 meters) underwater in a single breath. At the 2001 Free Diving World Cup, 15 people had to be rescued because of blackouts caused by their brains not getting enough oxygen.
3. Cave Diving - Imagine being more than 100 feet (30 meters) underwater in a deep, cold and dark cave. Divers are well trained but there are so many things that can go wrong which is why this is one of the world's most dangerous sports. You can lose your way, run out of air, your equipment can fail or you can be eaten alive by a cave creature.
4. Speed Skiing - This is the world's fastest non-motorized sport and one of the world's most dangerous sports. Skiers wear special skis and aerodynamic suits to fly down a hill at speeds up to 160 miles (250 kms) per hour! That's almost as fast as a racecar! One crash often means death.
5. Rock Fishing - Unless you're a fish, how can fishing be one of the world's most dangerous sports? Rock fishing involves casting a line into the ocean from the shoreline. People often forget about the tides and are swept away or are dragged underwater by massive waves. In 2001, 15 people in Australia died while rock fishing.
6. Bull Riding - Jump on a raging bull who hates your guts and try to hang on. That's the name of the game in bull riding. Some of the bulls weigh over 2000 pounds (900 kilos) and can throw a rider off in a split second - and may even stomp on the rider afterwards. Riders suffer broken bones, punctured lungs and even death.
7. Supercross - Athletes fly in the air on a motorcycle while doing backflips, taking their hands off the handlebars and other death-defying stunts.
8. Solo Yacht Racing - In a race around the world, sailors encounter waves, sharks, hurricanes and even pirates. The nearest help can be hundreds of miles away and racers have no control over the conditions they run into. With no one nearby to help them out, racers can lose the race and their lives.
9. Street Luging - Highly modified skateboards are used to race down a hill at speeds up to 80 miles (128 kms) per hour. The pioneers of this sport originally raced down hills in the middle of traffic which made it even more risky. There are now special luges and equipment for the sport which make it much safer. But hey, you're still hitting pavement when you crash.
10. Riding a Bike - We've all heard the phrase "it's as easy as riding a bike." Well, riding a bike can still be dangerous. In 2001, more kids broke bones or dislocated joints riding bicycles than any other sport.
The last word goes to BMX master Mat Hoffman who's had 16 major surgeries in his 16 years of professional vert competitions and exhibitions. Hoffman's worst injury occurred in 1993 after he cleared 23 feet of air off a 21-foot ramp and ruptured his spleen on his landing. There was so much internal bleeding, Hoffman was given 20 minutes to live and even flatlined (that's when the heart monitor stops beeping cuz your heart stops beating) but was revived. "Head injuries are the worst, because you just can't assess them when you're unconscious," Hoffman says. "I've been in a mild coma for seven hours. I've had times when I've lost my sense of balance for a month and couldn't get it back. That gets really frustrating because you don't really know if it's healing or not."
Hmmmm. Interesting. Looks like we've been looking at different lists Venger, but I'll freely admit that they all sound rather hazardous too!
Where did you get the list from? And what is it rated on? Number of injuries? Number of deaths? Wonder if it's worldwide or from just one country? I would guess it's American!
Sorry, I know this is totally off topic now, but it's all rather fascinating, wouldn't you agree?
Just found this on the net... It's a quote from a professor at the British Design Safety Lab, who is trying to design a better standard of body protector for horse riders...
‘Horse riding, statistically, is actually more dangerous than Formula 1 driving - it's the most dangerous sport in the world. That actually makes sense, because on a horse you have no shell to protect you. People forget that it's not just the falling off a horse, but it’s also the fact that often the horse will kick you, or even fall on you – and horses usually weigh about 1500 pounds!'
I wonder where this professor got her statistics from?
I think maybe one of the most dangerous things about getting on a horse is that they are living things with a mind of their own. With a skateboard, vehicle ect. the rider is esentially in control over a mechanical thing, but horses can be incredibly unpredictable.
Pretty damn dangerous.
I was expecting to see free climbing, as titled most dangerous, not most risk of injuriy or fatalaty.

But how do they measure danger? And what do you mean by 'pretty damn dangerous'? Is that a website? Or just a general comment?
I would have thought an extreme sports website would steer clear of listing sports like horse riding and rugby because of the very un-extreme, home counties image!!!
I wonder if there's ever been a totally 'official' study? Because otherwise the whole thing is very subjective.

Toy Town by the sounds of it :suspect:
No disrespect to you.
Sounds like she is comparing all horse linked sports against only one single car linked sport where only about 16 drivers in the World actually compete professionally.
I think it is more likely that Madonna was not in an official competition while celebrating her Birthday, so it could be argued that it is the equivalent to going for a Sunday drive in the car perhaps?
We don't need telling how dangerous roads are me thinks.

I agree with both of those, yes the damn dangerous was a general remark from yours truly

Well... apparently Madonna was on a horse she wasn't familier with when she fell off, and she was galloping.
There's a lot you can do with any dangerous activity to minimise the risks, so she should have known that it was safer to familiarise herself with the horse first before attempting a high speed.
But technically, yeah, it does sound as if she was on a 'Sunday drive'. Sunday drivers are some of the worst drivers on the road though!

That is your opinion and your very entitled to it.
Intresting that two of her most critically acclaimed and best selling albums have both been released 5 years ago Music and 7 years ago Ray of Light.
You'll be VERY pleased to know that her accident wont delay the release of her new album out in November, according to this (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/music/4157736.stm) report from the BBC.
I leave you with this (http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y257/Steelcityrise/MIsc/r4117710361.jpg) little message from Madonna:hihi:
muddycoffee 17-08-2005, 22:50 Dear Skyfitsboy,
you are entitled to your appreciation of madonna. Good luck to you, I have never liked her and as far as I'm concerned :-
Kate Bush has had far far more influence to the artists, and especially the female artists who matter in my life.
Suzanne Vega, Eddi Reader, Tori Amos, Sarah McLachlan etc..
Madonna? who has she influenced? Jerri Helliwell? Kylie Manogue? How many valuable songs have any of them written? Can they sing without having pich correction? No. Can they play any musical instruments? No evidence of that.. Can any of them actually sing? ..
No just karaoke

I know somebody who is exactly the same age as Madonna to the day, and Madonna has started dropping a year from her age about 5 years ago.
She was actually 48 yesterday.
