Does anyone know if its possible to have a log burner without a chimney please? Are there regulations as to where the flue can go (eg through a bedroom)? Will someone come to check if its possible without charge? How do you work out the size of burner needed? Can anyone recommend a good place for advice? Thankyou.

Just got this from t'Interweb. Fitting a solid fuel appliance and flue requires a building control warrant from your local council. Absolutely do not go ahead without consulting them first. There are regulations which would require to be adhered to before fitting a flue and a solid fuel appliance. The stove would probably need a solid concrete hearth built (some don't - but you'd need to be sure what you were buying 1st.) and if you had a stud (plasterboard) wall you'd need to be careful about the distance from it. The flue would also need to extend up to the roof, possibly above the ridge height. It all needs planned correctly. Please take proper advice from your local stove shop/council.

no one will do it for free,

an average cost for your install wirthout seeing it building a flue to the correct height and specification would be 3500 +,

this would include stove, flue and building work.

measure your room, an average room in an average house would be in the region of 5 kw. any bigger may over heat the room and cause the stat to throttle therefore making the stove inneficient.

only a hetas registered engineer can advise you on solid fuel systems.

in my experience only 20 % of people wanting a soild fuel appliance actually go ahead with it due to the high install cost.,
