Probably a long shot, but does anyone know how long I might wait for an appointment with the dermatologist at the hallamshire after being referred? I was referred about 6 weeks ago, and have a feeling I could be waiting til well into 2006....

A friend of mine was referred to a dermatologist through his dr. he was only waiting a week or so as far as I can remember. Give them a ring and see what's happening...

The NHS website says between 91 and 104 days depending on which consultant you are seeing:

Consultant / Waiting time (days)

Cockayne / 92
Cork / 104
Gawkrodger / 97
Ghura / 93
McDonagh / 91
Messenger / 97
Ramsay / 95

Oh thanks very much for that, didn't realise there was such a service online.

The dermatology clinic have acknowledged their receipt of my referral and said they would get in touch when my name was at the top of the datal ordered list.

I waited about 12 weeks I think and what a waste of time. I've never in my life been made to feel so worthless. Treated like a child with people walking in and out of the room every 2 minutes. Very intimidating - basically awful.

My best friend has just been too and has had a similar experience - come back in 6 months if you've still got it then after 6 months - there's nothing we can do, just put up with it.

They send you a letter when you've reached the top of the list and you ring to make an appointment - I think they hope most people won't bother.

Hope you get on better!

Hi - don't know what sort of thing you have but I developed a pregnany rash and had to be referred to the dermatologist at the Hallamshire...anyway, the point of my message is, before seeing her, I tried every other route - one of them was seeing a chinese herbalist just of Ecclesall road. They were absolutely fantastic, diagnosed exactly what was wrong and prescribed a specific cream for it. Some people believe in this, some people believe it to be a load of rubbish, the state I was in I had to try something and I was very impressed. If you manage to get up there and think it maybe something a herbalist could have a go at, give them a try:

Alton & James Medical Herbalist
Tel: 0114 2682468
253 Sharrow Vale Rd, Sheffield, S11 8ZE

It is better to call and make and appointment with one of the fully trained staff if you fancy it.

Also, the cream they made for me cost about £3.00 a pot!!!

Good luck.

And I was quite optmistic about seeing someone helpful as well :(

Jonesy, ring and ask to be put on the cancellations list and give them a mobile number. Sometimes they phone you on the day before or the day of a cancellation itself (well, they did with me!)

My Dad was refererred to the Hallemshire by his GP, he only had to wait a couple of weeks for the appointment, but they don't seem to have a clue what is wrong with him and don't seem to be in a rush to find out.

Thanks folks.

Charlie01, was the person you saw helpful/understanding/generally alright? I'm hoping they're better than the one in my home town (I'm a student).

I thought they were great! Suppose it depends what you're going for, but they were knowledgable and pretty speedy when I went, so that's one vote for and one against!!

Jonesy,
They were actually pretty good, got me sorted straight away, nice and polite and evrything!
not saying my prob was more important than anyone elses but i had a mole change colour so that was probably why they were so fast acting?!

Oh ok that has restored my faith a little! I guess I got the 'we have received your referral and put you on the list, we'll be in touch' letter from the dermatology dept. about 3 or 4 weeks ago. Bearing in mind the link that someome kindly posted reckoned the wait would be somewhere in the region of 3 months I shan't pester them for a bit. Maybe you guys got lucky with speedy appointments or as you say maybe they were more concerned about your condition. When you're referred obviously your condition/symptoms are mentioned to the relevant hospital dept so they surely take that into account too, despite them saying they do it purely in 'datal order'.

Cheers.

Did the cream work? My boyfriend has a horrible rash on his hands and he has tried every cream that the doctor has prescribed him but nothing has worked and he's getting to the end of his tether with it.

This thread is 4 years old! Do you really expect someone to respond to a question about a point they made 4 years ago?

Closing.
