Does anyone know of any confirmation of places that will be having late licenses? Thinking more about the city centre bars more than suburbs. I think most people will agree that sheffield needs more (or at least 1) good late bar! However i'm worried that if every bar decides to open until 2am or later it will practically kill the already dieing club scene in sheffield. Whats peoples thoughts?
the ones that i've seen have applied are the fox and duck in broomhill and the yorkshire grey just off arundel gate.
I haven't looked at anywhere else, but expect that most city centre pubs will be applying for an hour or two at least at the weekends.
If the clubs can't survive without people who'd rather be in a pub then it's no loss to us if they close.
Personally I won't be upset if I never have to go to a club again.

Several pubs in Woodseats have applied for an extra hour. It seems that the pub chains are doing this across the board.
There is an interesting thing in the star tonight about the Punchbowl at crookes, getting it's late license. As usual it's part fact and part fiction. I used to work there when the last manager was in and saw the change over to the new one, and the process bears no likeness to the codswallop they have printed.

I used to out in Liverpool a bit in the late 90s- and most of the bars on their equivalent to West St & Division St had 2am licenses - they'd got the extensions during Euro96 & just kept them. This did have quite an effect on the city's tradional neon & chrome type clubs - and there was loads of touting for business & cheap drink offers. Why pay cash to go into a big cattle market when you can get p*ssed, have a dance and try and kop off for free in a big pub that stays open late?
However the dance/indie/rock clubs werent really that affected by it as people were going there for the music - or at least to be with like minded people while they got trollied and tried to kop off!
I presume the people most anti widespread extensions are the owners of mainstream clubs like Kingdom etc

I wish the Dev Cat would on a Sunday night. Would save me having my usual drunken tantrum when I realise it's closing time. :D

And that's when you should come to Tequila Bar ;)
Looks like pretty much all places in and around the city centre will be open later - look for the notices that are helpfully stuck up for us :)

I believe that the licenses are subject to the conditions of not recieving any complaints from nearby residents, so if it does become a problem, get several people in the area to complain and they will have the closing time made earlier.
