I’ve been to a fair few games over the last forty years and I like to think I have a reasonably decent ability to identify the strengths of players and certainly if I was a manager I’d try and play to these strengths.

So out of the players you’ve seen, have you ever come across a player that you just can’t work out what he brings to the team.

For me down at Hillsborough at the moment the only one that stands out is James O’Connor, I really can’t see what his strength is, he doesn’t seem to be able to pass the ball, tackle, beat players, head the ball, shoot or have blistering pace.

Anybody know what his strength is, or have any players they don’t know what they bring to the team.

Are you speaking of players who are, basically, just useless - or players who actually improve a side despite not appearing to be any good at anything?

On a non-Sheffield note, Emile Heskey falls into the latter camp for England - he always looks like a complete waste of space on the pitch, and yet for whatever reason, England's results are better if he is in the team.

Good post, I reckon that he's a manager's dream, a nice guy, none controversial, always gives 100% of what he's got, and although he's not a prolific scorer, his assists are worth credit.

You could say it about Darius Henderson, although he knows where the onion bag is aswell as being apparently crap.
