Is this worth a visit with the kids? Anybody been and can recommend it?

Yes, it is worth a visit.

However, I think that the kids with find the Rare Breeds Farm at Graves Park much better.

Make sure that you do both at some time.

I would agree with this.

If you go to heeley farm, you can buy loads of plants, herbs and fruit / veg plants and everything is much cheaper than a garden centre,

Graves park rare breeds is so good that even as an adult I go for a walk up there occasionally. I often spend an hour with the goats and pigs, and if nobody else is there I talk to them. They are such great little characters, I would love to have a goat.. they are so funny.

I visted both places mentioned last week with an eight year old and a 1 year old. We spent 4 hours at Heeley Farm and about 1/2 an hour looking at the animals at Graves Park.

IMO Heeley City Farm is better due to being able to feed the horses and the polecat was a surprise to the 8 year old.

Graves Park has too many chickens (unless you like that sort of thing). However, they do have piglets, kids and a baby deer at the moment.

Also I find the pigs and goats at Heeley more responsive than the ones at Graves Park.
