Rocastle is one of many thousands who i miss seeing on that big green patch of grass !!!
He was one of the first footballers along with Mitchell Thomas who gave me this addiction with football.
It was on tele that game against Liverpool (the title decider) and it still feels like its yesterday.

velvet covered bodywork ! lol

When he played for Birmingham, he used to come out of the tunnel carrying, then giving flowers away to the crowd ! dont think anyone was brave enough to ask him WHY? lol

IIRC wasn't it a Brown velvet coated Triumph Herald?

I remember they used to say..........
If you went past him the first time he'd nod his head at you
If you went past him the second time he'd look at you and
If you went past him the third time it would be 6 foot up in the air

More recent United players I miss are Jags (Phil Jagielka) and Pesch (Paul Peschilsolido).

On a more current note, I'm sure united are going to feel, keenly, the loss of the Kyles. I think it was a massive mistake for us to have let them go. (not a mistake for them, that's a fact, but there'll be a big gap where they ought to be.)

Michael Brown for the Blades, I sat in the library sulking the day he transfered.
Always used to love watching Shearer play for Newcy as a kid.
I'm not old enough to remember some of the early 90's players, but I loved watching Giggsy in his prime, even though he's still up there as a legend at present

What about George Best, i wasnt even born but id imagine he would have been one of the biggest misses to football.
From the footage ive seen of him never mind his off field antics he was gifted to say the very least

He died of a heart attack shortly after taking part in a five-a-side tournament in Keighley on 2 April 1987, aged 43.

There were a couple of lasses who went in the Carlton Anti-Social Club (one sadly passed away now) who always said that Giggs reminded them of Best, but just nowhere near as good .....

Besty has to be up there, but I never saw him play either, similarly a Jimmy 'Jinky' Johnstone in his prime for Celtic. Neither were of my time, so I suppose I can't really 'miss' them. I'll bet a pint with them would have been fun, mind you!

As a Blade, Mel Rees's passing was tragic. I'll agree about Rocastle too. Marc Vivien Foé might warrant a mention too. Very gifted.

Best might have been one of the most skilful players in the game's history; it was his misfortune to be born in Northern Ireland and never have a chance to prove it at the highest level.

Same for many other players the world over. More from the Home Countries and Ireland mind you.

I'm fairly sure both of those are still alive. Certainly, West Ham don't seem to be employing a corpse as manager.

I think Phil O'donnel should get a mention, he wasn't a great player but 32 is no age.

No where in the OP does it state the footballer has to be dead. It says who we miss and by that i took it to mean footballers that we miss seeing play.
