Hi

I have recently started my own business as a Childminder, I don't earn much but am paying Tax. I need someone who is able to point me in the right direction and perhaps do my tax returns for me.
of course I am willing to pay for your services.

I have never done anything like this before and I have no Idea what I am doing. I want to sort this out now whilst my business is still new and not when the Tax man calls in apil for my Tax return.
I have recently bought a collins Essntial accounts book, but there are just too many thing to complete ......Please help.

Hi. I think you can do your returns online, but also take your info into tax office - they really helped my Dad out. He's in Doncaster, so no guarantee for Sheffield office!!

Got to agree. With the size of your business, you don't want to waste money going to an accountant.

Go direct to ther Tax Office (on Moore Street I think) and they'll help you free of charge.

Thanks guys, Just panicking that's all, I know that I'm probably more than capable of doing it myself, but didn't realise that the tax man would help me out.

Just got a bit jumpy when the first thing I got from them was a letter telling me it was time for my self assessment, I've only been in business about 5 weeks!

I phoned them about it and they said that they didn't want a self assesment from me, the letter telling me that they wanted a self assesment from me was just to let me know they'd registered me.

and they wonder why they scare people!!

If you do want to speak to an accountant then give Josh a call at
http://www.thedecopartnership.co.uk/ - he's based in Eastbourne on the South coast but in this day and age distance isn't a matter as it can all be sorted on the phone or online - best thing is he does all the work himself and doesn't pass it on to a junior to screw up :) He saves me loads of money!

I am also a childminder and found phoning the Inland Revenue very helpful if you are stuck. If you are newly registered (within a year) you should have a support childminder who could help you they are fantastic because of all the experience?

Have you got the NCMA account book this makes accounts really straight forward you just copy what you put in the boxes every week on to the return. Most childminders don't pay tax anyway because we don't earn much after expenses so you may not have to pay anyway.

Also you can get the exemption from National Insurance (if you have children of your own) but its £27.50 otherwise per quarter.

Hi there, give Yasmin a call on 01142659800. They are CBS Accountancy Services but all their clients are small businesses i.e. taxi drivers, hairdressers etc. I have known them both professionally and personally for the past 10 years and they are very easy going, friendly do not overcharge in fact its less than half of all accountants. Just tell them Gail passed on their number.

Good luck with your business

Just wanted to say that I've had my tax and accounts sorted out by Josh. All via email, and very painless. His fee was FAR less than the amount of tax he's saved me.....

Cheers for the recommendation.
