Curse these cheap flights!

I've just booked 4 of us on return flights with Ryanair and paid online with my credit card.

They levy a charge for the pleasure of using a credit card of £1.75 per passenger each way.
They don't particularly advertise the fact but it is there in the website if you go looking. Otherwise it just appears on the bill at the end!

They upshot of this is that the credit card charge works out at 10% of the ticket cost!!!

Fair enough to have a charge per transaction, but per passenger/ticket is taking the mickey!!!!

In the time old phrase of the Blackpool Landladies,

"Well! We've got to live in the Winter!"

When in the UK I use Ryanair frequently and I find it is still good value even with all the extras.

I have booked flights to Denmark in September and the intial ticket price is 19 pence, es 19 pence but by the time the extras are paid I shall be paying over 100 pounds.

I am still satisfied with the price and the service.

I think its free if you use a debit card though (at least it is on easyjet).

Debit cards are 40p per passenger per flight.

The only free way, online, is with Visa Electron

I have booked cheap flights with easyjet and British Airways this year and recieved no such charges. Although if you're cutting prices to the bone, like Ryanair, then you have to expect them. I would be quite happy to pay that.

Having said that I usually go right to the ["just about to take your money from your credit card at the checkout"] section of the website to get prices to compare. Rather than take any notice of advertised prices, because all the hidden charges with some airlines can be for all sorts of add ons...

I may be wrong, but I believe it doesn't cost companies anything to accept debit cards, so they really shouldn't charge you for the privelage. Companies do however have to pay credit card companies a fee for each transaction - the amount varies depending on the credit card company, but is pretty much always a percentage of the transaction - hence why a lot of companies pass this onto the consumer. Companies that charge for using debit cards though are taking the p***!

You should never pay for a holiday or a flight using a debit card, because a credit card gives you loads of insurance and legal benefits if things go wrong, like the company goes into administration etc....

At work we take card payments for sales from customers all over the world, and the worst company to deal with is AMEX [american express] because their charges are higher and they take longer to pay you as a retailer.
