Check terms and conditions ebfore you but, especially when purchasing from abroad.

I purchase items online all the time, its normally a lot cheaper for the things that I buy than it is in the shops.

I buy quite a lot on the Internet.

Not only have I saved a lot of money over time, I have also saved on costs by not having to travel all over the place trying to buy something that may not be in the stores you visit.

So it can be more than just saving money directly.

oh i no what you mean about overseas purchases but 23 quid is a bit of a excessive fee imo play.com is the best bargain site for me as there is no postage to pay

For "adult" DVD's QXL.COM is better as most of them are from within this country, so you avoid import duty, TAX, and being arrested for importing porn.

Or so I hear.

Out of interest panda what was the cost of your disks? I want to order something from play usa and am expecting to get charged by customs but don't know how much.
Cheers

Best way is get someone in America to buy it for you and they can post it in a plain box or soemthing, less likely to get screwed by customs that way.

I also order from Play USA quite a lot too, and have never had any problems with that either. Its just like ordering from the normal Play site.

If you order goods from another country the company is supposed to put a customs declaration on the outside of the package giving a general description of the goods, the value of the goods and the sender's details. If you order goods from outside the European Union and the declared value of the goods is over £18 you will be liable to pay duty on those goods which may include a flat handling fee and a percentage of the value of the goods (with different types of goods having different rates of duty). Given you have been asked to pay a fee to release the package I would guess that the value of the goods is over £18 (which is approximately US$34) and is liable for customs duty.

If you want to avoid this happening in future only place orders which come to less than £18 and if possible use a retailer which does not include the delivery charges in the value declared on the outside of the package. For example, if you buy CDs from the US version of Amazon delivery charges are included in the declared value which means you can only buy two or three CDs at a time but other retailers do not include the delivery charges which means you can buy up to six CDs without going over the £18 limit.

Alternatively, if you buy goods from other countries within the European Union the £18 limit does not apply. You may have to pay VAT at UK rates on the goods but in some countries (such as France) their VAT rate is higher so you may get the goods cheaper than customers in France.

I always do most of my shopping online , soooo much easier than going to the shops and can get a lot of bargains and things you wouldn't find very easily in town  I only order from the UK though generally , don't want to wait ages for my good and have to pay extra shipping.
