Our dog died last week aged 14.
The cat is 8 and when she moved in has shared a room with the dog downstairs for all her life.

Now she hates sleeping downstairs on her own, and cries all night scratching at the door. Mum don't like her sleeping upstairs.

Will she ever stop doing this and learn to sleep by herslef again do you think?

Aminals can definitely mourn other animals. Elephants have even been known to carry dead members of the heard around with them as they move from place to place. And inter-species relationships like your cat and dog had can also be mourned.

I think your cat will come to terms with her loss and settle down, but you may need to be sensitive to her for a few weeks.Perhaps you could turn the radio on for her so that she feel like she's got company?

Aww poor cat.. She should settle back down. So keep battling away for the next month! She misses the company.. bless her. Aren't pets just great?

When our dog died our neighbours cat who used to visit him got very howly but we think they missed his food bowl the most and not actually him.
