I've only just found out recently that I dont have a water shut off tap for my water supply, my neighbours have one but I dont. I did have one under the sink but it is stuck solid. How would I have one fitted as I'm worried in case we have a water leak. Cheers x
replace the one you have. have you tried spraying a bit of WD40 on it to help lubricate it?also a tip is that when you fully open the tap, turn it back a half turn. this gives you play to wiggle the tap either way to help open it when trying to shut it
If you are on a meter there will be a tap on the meter usually. Possibly on the drive or path if you live in a house.

The grate outside only holds my neighbours tap. Im worried that if I mess around with the tap under the sink (its a very old one that was already in when I moved into the house) it will start to leak and I will flood the house. So I need one fitting outside the house, is this possible? I dont have a meter
i think you should look at the tap under the sink. thats usually where the stop tap for your property will be. the tap in the grate outside will probably be for two or more houses. the tap under your sink sounds like thats the one. they can get stuck cos they dont get turned for years on end...hope this helps

If you call yorkshire water they usually have maps of where the outside taps are and they come out for free if you tell them you are working on the house and need the water off.
I had them out to a house before xmas where we changed all the mains incoming.
He found it buried with a metal detector in the front garden!
You can always put another stop tap in after the old one so you dont have to keep turning that one??

As numero uno says, Yorkshire water will know where your EXTERNAL stop tap is. They are obliged to ensure a specific supply to this point (therefore can advise you of its exact position). If you believe the tap on the street is your neighbours, ask if you may turn it off then run your KITCHEN sink COLD mains tap. If the tap stops running (may take a minute or so to drain) then the external tap is 'communal' ie yours and neighbours shared, and you have an 'alternative' stop tap. Either way, you WILL have a stop tap 'upstream' of your internal stop tap in the kitchen, so by isolating this you will be able to replace the one inside. Hope this helps,
Steve
Hi we had this problem in a house we worked at. you can buy a freeze kit which you put on the pipe below the existing stop tap and then safely change the old stop tap over. Was pretty simple to do. We had water board out with the plans and the guy failed to find stop tap

Have you looked on the pavement outside? I have a tap in the cellar and until I found that one I used to use the one in the pavement. It's a bit grim sticking your hand down it but it works!
