A couple of my friends who are DVD buffs have told me today that there are plans to release the DVD version of a film at the same time that its coming out at the cinema!

I heard in the past, they were thinking of doing this, but I havent heard anything since.

Does anyone know if this is the case and is it going to happen?

Surely this would kill off a lot of piracy around the world if it did go ahead.. imagine that, you could pick up a copy of Star Wars straight after you watched it at the cinema... how good would that be?

Hmm, to match the 'service' that illegal film piracy offers, they would need to release the DVD before you could see it on the big screen.

Wow. I didn't know they were actually thinking of doing that, though I did hear that in America people are being turned off by the cinema & are prepared to wait for DVD release just because of all the adverts & trailers you have to sit through to get to watch the film. They now give the time that the actual film STARTS so you can turn up after all the ads.

Yes, that's the reason there doing it.

Thanks to Internet file sharing, pirates can distribute a film worldwide just hours after copying it at the cinema, so I expect that the film studios have been forced into taking these measures.

I had heard they were going to do this with Spiderman 2, but I don't know if it ever came about.

I think this could well be the answer to piracy finally..
I mean, why would you buy a pirate copy of a cinema film when you can get it on DVD at the same time as it comes out at your local UGC.. unless the DVD is still high priced of course.

But its a big two-thumbs up from me if they do roll this out!

why do you want a pirate copy of a film anyway , surely all the upstanding forum members don't break the law do they.
surely there can't be that many hypocrites in sheffield.

It's amazing what people can talk themselves into doing, even if it's against the law... 'I'm not hurting anyone' 'They don't need the money' 'It isn't REALLY stealing' 'Well, I wouldn't have bought it anyway'... and dozens of other excuses for doing something which is pretty much the same as going into the houses of the people who made the film and stealing some money.

Try going into a coffee shop and taking a coffee without paying... if the police catch you, just say that Starbucks don't need the money because they are already rich enough, and that you wouldn't have wanted to drink it if you had to pay for it... That'll work.

And here we go again... about piracy..
Thats not the topic here boys and girls! :)

Just a little note as well:
There have been a couple of threads on here about piracy and the result comes out the same- people on the forum BACK the pirates and BUY pirate copies. I dont want to go through the moral implications and the goody two shoes approaches again but thankyou anyway :)

For many many reasons that we have been through a million times before:

1. Its cheaper
2. You get to see a film ASAP
3. The quality may be crap sometimes, other times its near DVD quality.

As I said above- the pirates win .. end of!

unfortunately u mentioned piracy in your first post which suggests that this may be a matter of debate.

i posted a rhetorical question.

if u wish to buy pirate dvd's you should be locked up like a criminal.
morgan freeman is also launching a similar site to allow downloads of movies for a fee to help reduce piracy.

The guy who does the film revenues on five live on a Friday afternoon was talking about this the other week (he is quite brilliant btw). My understanding is that you will be able to purchase the film on DVD at the cinema after you have watched the film. You will need your ticket to purchase.

blockbuster r supposedly trialling dvds that corrupt when played, u therefore get to watch/play them a limited number of times before they "self destruct". when u return them they r disposed of.

I heard this as well.. as well as the idea of making a DVD trackable to you if you pirate it as well ?!?!?

All I have to say to those two ideas...... BAHAHAHAHA! :)
Aww god bless Blockbuster for trying.

You cant make corruptable DVD's.. its just not possible I would have thought and think of the cost as well to keep replacing corruptable discs! And as for 'tracking DVD's' -- they are dreaming, end of.
