I'm hoping to enrol for an Access Course (Science) with the Sheffield College.

Can anyone tell me what they're like?

Any tips?

I've often thought I'd like to teach this course, though perhaps not the science one....I imagine it will be like the science you did in school, except;
1/ everyone is adult and in theory mature
2/ and in theory wants to be there (including the tutor).
This allows a dialogue into the subject above the level of "what to I have to do to pass?" It also is important to see that the subject really is for you.

I did it and I loved it, at hillsborough, was the best course, loads of support, can't rec it highly enough

This is not strictly relevant but watched really interesting programme(well I thought so ;-/) on BBC Four (iplayer) about the history of the periodic table, I was amazed to learn that scientists discovered that helium is present in the Sun by defracting the light from the sun and measuring its light spectrum and comparing with elements found on Earth. Actually I find that lots of things are interesting when you relate them to how they were discovered through history as to just learning for learning sake, such as Maths, etc.

im half way through a humanities and social science access course at norton college and it's really good, u get treat like an adult :o)

Yes I did it last year at Norton College. I did the Health Science Access course over 3 days. Loved every minute of it. Now starting uni in September doing midwifery!!!

Hours - Mon and Wed 9.30 - 3.45 / Tues 9.30 -11.30

Subjects covered - Maths, English, Chemistry, Biology, physiology, Chemistry in Society and I.T. Credits available - 93 at level 3, uni normally ask for 60 at level 3 depending on what course you are applying for. Put the hard work in and get all 93 like me!

I'm currently on an access course, but at rotherham college. I hate it. I dont get treated like an adult, it feels like bgeing back at school. But I have heard that the sheffield colleges are a lot nicer. Also on my course I find the tutors very disorganised and confusing. Good luck with your course though! :)
