missymoo73 31-01-2010, 19:18 Hi chemical....I currently live in Wath Upon Dearne. Although I am moving outta Wath myself to another part of Rotherham.Which part of donny road are you moving to? It depends on what kinda area you like. Wath is a lovely place to live. Is it one of the terraced houses on donny road?
missymoo73 31-01-2010, 19:21 Pm me if you want specific info

yes it is, across from a primary school apparently xx
missymoo73 31-01-2010, 19:41 Yep thats actually my old primary school (Wath Victoria) Its not a bad area at all. Close to town where there are two supermarkets one is a new Netto the other is Tesco quite a few shops in the "village". A friend of mine lives on Cadman street which is just round the corner where you are thinking of moving and again its a very nice place.
missymoo73 31-01-2010, 19:43 If you have children then I would recommend Wath C of E school rather than Victoria and for older kids Wath Comp is one of the best school around.

whats the crime like ie, theft especially car theft, young uns (chavs) hanging around, ect ect.. xx
chemicaljovi 31-01-2010, 19:47 oh and i more question whats the transport links like, i need to get from wath to high green chap area on a daily basis and i dont drive yet x
missymoo73 31-01-2010, 19:50 Crime as far as I am aware is very rare. I have lived in Wath all my life and only ever had my car broken into once. There are a few chavs around but I'm sure you get those in your area too. Not really any gangs you tend to get those round the skate park which is at bottom of sandygate. There are the lakes not far from Donny Road which are beautiful to walk round.
Will you be looking for work in wath or is your work situation sorted?

There is a place called ventura just at the back of you which is a call centre. I worked there for 3 years - not really my thing tbh coz its a bit boring but they are always looking for staff - you get 25% off next stuff too plus there is a staff shop which is brill.
There are also other call centres around the area within walking distance from your potential house.

missymoo73 31-01-2010, 20:04 No probs hun. You know where I am if you need anymore info xx
the_rudeboy 31-01-2010, 20:08 My ex wife used to live at wath (until today as it happens) and has never mentioned any probs up there. I drive up that way 3-4 times a week to pick up my daughter and can't say i've seen any gangs knocking about, other than in the skate park opposite Netto.

I live not far from the white bear estate and yes itis rough but I have had no trouble from that area at all. It has improved loads over the last few years and its just a hand full of people that give it that bad reputation. Where the house you are looking at is far away from white bear estate. Oak Road is another rough street but again only a handful of families that give it that reputation and is away from donny road. I suppose it all depends on the money you are prepared to spend. Wath is classed as a posh area but as a few rough bits -- but thats like all areas really - I'm sure chapletown as the same thing too.

Thorpist 31-01-2010, 20:51 oh and i more question whats the transport links like, i need to get from wath to high green chap area on a daily basis and i dont drive yet x
The trip you will be doing by public transport will be a nightmare.
Going by car through West Melton and Wentworth is not bad at all.
Chap and Wath are very similar in many ways eg shops pubs and traffic volumes.
Hi my partner has a business in Wath, he has done for a few years now, does not really have any problems, seems a decent area.
I moved from Doncaster Road in Wath back to Sheffield 2 weeks ago.. my house was opposite the school (good chance it's my old one then) :)
That part of Doncaster Road is really quiet, I lived there for 2 years and never had any troubles at all, with kids or otherwise. It's nowhere near the White Bear Estate.
One of the main reasons I moved back to Sheffield is that even though I drive it really became a pain in the backside having to travel everywhere as there is nothing to do in Wath.
Agent Orange 02-02-2010, 18:16 I was brought up in Wath. In fact, I lived on Cadman Street, opposite the school, from being born until I was 8. I occasionally go back to the area, but haven't been down the Doncaster Road area for ages. My parents still live in the area so I am still up to date on the goings on.
I would recommend the area, not cos I am biased, but cos I know a lot about the place. The schools are spot on, crime is relatively low as is problematic youths. There are some decent pubs in and around the town and you got a choice of two major supermarkets, as well as some nice grocers in the centre. Oh, and there is some nice walking to be had along the Dearne and wetlands centre.

Yeah, I remember them. It was 25 years ago when I moved, but the memory is still there :D

I too was born and bred in Wath and lived there until I got married to a Sheffield lass  22 year ago.
It's a very typical ex mining town/village with enough local shops and supermarkets to keep you going. It's one of the places where everyone knows everyone else (well my Mother does anyway!) and a lot of people stay after leaving school and then bring up their own families there.
I went to Wath Central and then the comp, both of which are good schools.
The Doncaster Road area is fine, no where near the White Bear estate... which isn't that rough, it's just like bits of any other town really, and certainly nothing like Pitsmoor!
I enjoyed my time there and would recommend it to you. :)
Good luck!
