View Full Version : Has anyone tried a Saga Holiday?
springflower 14-08-2005, 15:48 Have looked at a Saga short break that says it accommodates for the over 50's. I am just 50 but young at heart. Don't really want to join the Senior Citizens Club just yet. Still have my own hair and teeth.
Don't want to find myself in a Hotel with the over 60's. Anyone tried them. The hotels look nice but there are no photographs of the clients!
Hi springflower
I have a friend who swears by Saga, in fact he rarely books with anyone else since he discovered how good they are.
Me? I wouldn't be seen dead with Saga stickers on my luggage :D
springflower 14-08-2005, 16:03 Are they strapped into Shackletons High Seats and move around in zimmer frames - or are they all housed up in the bowels of the Hotel.
From what my friend says, Saga travellers are treated like royalty and they wouldn't accept being put into shabby accommodation.
I think Mr Strix's parents went on one of those activity things with them. Mr Strix's dad enjoys walking, and his mum enjoys watercolouring and walking, so they picked a holiday that catered to both their hobbies.
I wish I was as fit as some of the people in the photo's they brought back :(
springflower 14-08-2005, 16:28 Thanks for the advice. Do you think I will be OK then? Hope to be going with my sister. I may sound a bit para**** but went to a reunion last week and did not recognise anyone. They had all got really fat - the only slim person there was me.
Perhaps I could just try a short break - I mean I don't have to stay in the Hotel if I feel out of place. They are advertising The Hilton in York - an Antique Weekend - anyone tried it?
You'll be fine ;)
It's them berluddy coach tours you should avoid like the plague :suspect:
We regularly go to Scotland, and the number of shopping bag-toting crinclies who pour out of a coach, use the toilets and pile back on again in some amazing locations is criminal
I can strongly recommend Saga holidays.
They may appear dearer than some of their rivals but if you look into what you get for your money trips, extras, free services etc.you will find they are cheaper.
When you think about it, they have the hardest customers to please, people with cash buying power, plenty of time to study all the ins and outs, researching the holidays and plenty of group associations to turn to if things are not right.
Do not worry about being too young you will be pleasantly surprised at the age group ypu travel with.
Many people nowadays are taking early retirement and are taking advantage of Saga travel.
You will also fiond they are totally flexible in their holiday planning.
Next year I am flying from New Zealand to meet up with Saga in China for a tour, returning to the UKafterwards.
I am really looking forward to the trip.
Where are you thinking of going to?
Happy Holidays!
springflower 14-08-2005, 18:01 Hi - thanks for replying - thought I might try somewhere with History and Antique Shops - York looks a good place to start
Could split it up with looking at the Architecture, a Ghost Walk and then the Antique shops
Perhaps only for a few days then if I have got it wrong it doesn't matter too much
If you're not bothered about mingling with others, have a look at www.laterooms.com for a hotel, and get in touch with tourist info to plan your own itinerary
hi springflower!
my dad went on a saga holiday with his girlfriend in march this year!it was a tour of Italy and it had been recommended to them by several people!
they had a brilliant time!they were in Rome when the pope died and obviously it could have been really chaotic and stressful but the saga rep. was great and they intend to go on another saga holiday in the future!i've looked at the brochure and wish i was older[for once!]
go for it,i'd say!!
My Mum did one to Germany last year and while some were pretty old she got 2 know a girl that went along and was only 30! (and no not one of the organisers)
It probably depends on where you go - more coffin fodder on a trip to say, Eastbourne than Easter Island...
My Mum has been on several Saga holidays even some as a Saga floozy, which means she wasn't over 50 but was allowed as her partner was.
She has always had a superb time and has made several good friends. I think mainly she has been to Greece and Cyprus. I've been jealous at times by the way she talks about them as they sound good fun and a great laugh.
