Ive seen a few tracks I want on itunes, but I've never downloaded any from it before. Its not the downloading part that bothers me its more about the security and wether the tracks will actually work.

Can anyone recommend it, or know if its safe to give up my card details?

Cheers, Sean

I wouldn't have a second thought about buying through itunes - most things on the internet are probably safer than using your card in a shop and leaving the receipt at the mercy of a minimum-wage saturday staff member, sending the numbers through the post etc :)

As long as you don't need to use the music track on something that won't support it (hardware mp3 player?), go for it...

Never had any probs with itunes, you get an email each time to confirm your download as an invoice so you can keep track, sometimes it takes a day or two to come through, (the invoice not the tracks)
I find the download time is quite slow but i'm not on broadband and as i have'nt used any other i can't say how it compares.
I'd say use it with confidence.
If you are on dial up it is a 9.9MB download so you might want to use an older version than the new one (4.9) i can't podcast on dial up.

Thanks rich951 and 40summat,
You've given me with confidence in itunes, so i think i'll go get my tracks! I'm on broadband so the download time shouldn't really be a problem.

Cheers!

The iTunes music store is great fun - HOWEVER - the files you download will be Apple's own AAC format and are only compatible with iTunes and iPods. If you have any other mp3 player they won't work.

You could possibly get around this by burning a CD in iTunes, and then re-ripping that to make a standard mp3 file?

i made my first purchase on iTunes t'other day; a Ladytron remix exclusive to iTunes. Well worth the 79p I paid :) I've been using iTunes as my music player on both mac and pc for ages now tho, the playlist stuff is aces and the sound quality is the better than WMP and Winamp IMO.

Well for anyone who's interested I've signed up to itunes this afternoon. Not a massive selection but the downloads were fast and good quality.

When they downloaded they came as mp4 files, not entirely sure what that is to be honest, but they burn onto cd easily so it's all good!

Apple's lossless encoding uses 25-35MB per track, but it is CD quality so if you listen on decent headphones or a good hi-fi it will sound better. MP3 uses about 5MB per track, assuming you aren't downloading 30 minute prog rock tracks :hihi:
