sheffgrow 29-01-2010, 21:39 they are not kissing gourami's are they? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kissing_gourami
have a look
dumplindeb 30-01-2010, 10:32 but kissing gouramis arnt fat..sounds more like parrot fish to me..no good for a biorb though
wouldnt recommend any of these for a beginner fish..
tonyp5467 30-01-2010, 13:10 yeh sounds like a parrot fish to me too
middletons seemed to stock these quite often
and as stated before theyre unsuitable for biorbs as they get big quickly
your better of with the likes of neon tetras, platties, mollies etc in a biorb
michael1978 30-01-2010, 13:57 minnows also make a good starter fish aswell
Echo what has been said above biorbs are not really suitable for a lot of fish a few danios, rasboras or white cloud minnows is about it .
Take a look at www.svas.co.uk South Yorkshires local aquarist society
thanks all the parrot fish are looking the most likely at minute, the fish i remember was like a flouresent pink and was quite fat with big puffy cheeks although that might be me making it up as it was a few years back is there any fish that are flouresent pink?

Fish can sometimes take on the colour of the lighting that is being used. your best bet would be to visit a reputable aqarium.
Yea i think i may try sheffield aquatics on langsett road as i am determined to find out what the fish are now and really want them for my daughter
i just found this image http://www.bangkokaquarium.com/images/goldfish/Black%20Moor%20GoldFish.jpg and am sure that this is the fish i saw that was bright pink can these fish be pink?

That is a picture of a Blackmoor goldfish..
Goldfish aren't tropical fish, they are cold water fish..
I strongly suggest you do some research before you buy any fish..:)
killa_ted 31-01-2010, 21:44 why not get a couple of siamese fighters (but not 2 male's) very colourful fish that dont grow 2 big

i did say dont get two male's
and dont go to viscum its ridiculously overpriced and i mean its :loopy:
best fish to get for a biorb are guppies, the majority are now bred for their colours which although brings the quality of the fish down they are really colourful and a tank full of them looks brilliant :)
good luck what ever you choose
yes i was told the ones i saw were tropical but those goldfish look like what i remember but they were flouresent pink i am going to try some more pet shops and get some advice
doncaster26 01-02-2010, 10:06 I dont think viscum is expensive ! If you want good healthy fish pay a little extra or buy twice !

As others have said, the fluorescent pink colour might have something to do with the lighting they were using in the tank..
I have a white gourami that looks a hint of blue.. Nothing to do with the colouring of it, just the lighting/coloured gravel I have..

Totally agree.. It's a bit of a trek to get there, but well worth it..
Their advice is invaluable..
go to fish inc at handsworth they will sort you out.
I3lade4life 04-02-2010, 18:25 Are you sure it wasnt a parrot fish? Blackmoor's don't come in flourescent pink and arent tropical's.
Take a look at this pic and see what you think

Personally I dislike them because they are well over-bred and deformed, just for their bizzare appearance
wow what a colourful image, i agree with the others here parrot fish and small bi-orbs dont mix, i had 25 in total in a 8 foot by 2 foot by 4 foot tank and they lasted just over 10 years!! if you want pink fish to match the room why not go for a danio and tetra mix but add a pink led strip light (can be found on ebay for under £10, there waterproof will cast a pink glow over the fish)
bloom1961 12-02-2010, 02:39 Try the shop on Elm lane across from fire station I get all my troplicals from there
