View Full Version : £25million, for Rotherham's new ground.
crookesey 29-01-2010, 11:29 This confuses the hell out of me, after going into adminstration twice, and averaging gates of less than 4000, who is paying for this? Is there any funding from outside Rotherham or are the council funding it?
Is it a Chesterfield type set up, with retail and office space, and the ground being a minor part of the overall development? With the amount of retail and office units already standing empty in Rotherham, I just don't get it.
Grandad.Malky 29-01-2010, 12:23 One word explains all in Rotherham, Renaissance.

Yorkshire Forward, Rotherham Council, European grant? I doubt they are paying for it themselves. Perhaps they will be renting it from the council.

I suspect that you are bang on.

if i recall RUFC were f***** over by the council and a scrapman which is what led to their expulsion from millmoor. correct me if i am wrong?
someone on the council is getting a pretty obvious backhander here. my money is on a certain leader who was alleged to be working elsewhere whilst on paid sick leave from council duties.
yes, i have a very long memory and access to the newspaper reports at the time!
there are listed buildings on the site which tesco wanted to demolish which is why they never moved onto the site.
does this mean they will now be demolished?
more of rotherham's heritage gone.
if i were on the council, i would be sending the wife shopping with my ill gotten loot.
i think a public enquiry is in order.

A good post, and probably very near to the mark. On and off I spent circa 9 years working in Rotherham, and always suspected that the rate payers were being stitched up. I once met Ken Booth and Ron Hull at their respective places of business on the same day, I both liked and trusted the latter, he didn't bad mouth his father in law, but neither did he praise him.
