My brother in law who is computer illiterate has been given a computer with a Windows 95 OS and he has ask me to help/teach him to use it. Please tell me it is similar to my Windows 98se OS if not what are the differences if they can be explained in a few words.

Thanks

98se is more robust - i.e. it doesn't crash as often. :)

It also supports USB properly - 95, even when patched, isn't good with USB.

I'm sure there are other differences that folks like Martin, Lurch or Vidster can identify!!

Good Luck!

Joe

obviously they work roughly the same so if your used to using 98 youll be able to work yourself round 95 BUT obviously 95 is lacking in features.

maybe you could try upgrading his windows to 98? :)

Win95 runs 16bit apps, and 98SE runs 32 bit apps, which is what ME, 2000 and XP run :)

Also traditionally, Win95 is installed on Fat16 whereas Win98SE will be installed on Fat32.

Obviously, as 98Se is newer than 95, it will have the same built in elements as Win95 but newer (humm), IE is 5.0 in 98SE whereas 95 is still on 4.0 ( :gag: ). Also you're stuck with Media Player Classic (which admitedly I use to watch my DivX')

I'd go for 98SE myself if I had the choice. 200MHz proc, 64MB Ram should suffice.

95 is a fally over version of 98. Basically, 98 supports more stuff and is geared up for a new range of hardware.

I'd get a copy of 98 on instead, there's not much you can do with 95 that's worth learning. If he's completely technically inept you could stick a copy of one of the Windows-alike Linux variants that will be much better than Windows 95 and 98 and be more like XP, and it'll be a hell of a lot cheaper.
