View Full Version : News: Plane crashes in Athens carrying 121 people.
Kristian 14-08-2005, 11:41 News sites are reporting that a plane has crashed near to Athens while carrying 121 people.
Story here. (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2005/08/14/uplane1.xml&sSheet=/portal/2005/08/14/ixportaltop.html)
The thing I thought was scariest was: 'One of the F-16 pilots reported that he could not see the captain in the cockpit and his co-pilot appeared to be slumped in his seat, a Defence Ministry official said.'
Is this a terrorist attack?
Kristian 14-08-2005, 11:46 Apparrently, there was no sign of a hijacking:

youwhatref 14-08-2005, 12:08 I could only guess it's down to fumes in the Kabin of some sort. Why both pilots would be keeled over i can find no other reason aprt from hi-jacking, fumes of some sort or poisoned.
Sounds spooky!
cgksheff 14-08-2005, 12:14 there are still many possibilities.
The report tells us that pilot & passenger reported problems with cabin pressure!
No pressure = no oxygen = unconsious!
You would normally expect them to get their oxygen masks on, however.

Starting to make sense now. Quote from winess 'I saw many bodies scattered around, all of them wearing oxygen masks'.

Air travel is dangerous!!! anyone getting on an aeroplane these days is insane and has a death wish : there are so many negatives : pilot error, fire, mechanical failure, suicide bombers, hi - jackers, the risks are too great, even military aircraft have the option of bailing out with a parachute, but what have we got................Zilch!!!

if you think of the amount of planes that take off eveyday and the amount of that crash its a very low % compared to trravelling in a car... the only problem is when a plane crashed it tends to cause more destruction on a larger scale..
my thoughts are with all the families involved with this.

cgksheff 16-08-2005, 07:13 A man who claimed his cousin on the stricken jet had sent him a text message was a hoaxer, police said yeserday.
Nektarios-Sotirios Voutas, 32, from Thessaloniki, called Greek television stations, saying Kostas Petridis had messaged him minutes before the crash, saying: "Farewell, cousin. Here we're frozen." His claim was reported around the world.
But police in Thessaloniki said there was no Petridis in the list of victims. Voutas was charged with disseminating false information and causing a public disturbance. He will appear in court today.
