Hi, I'm moving to Sheffield. I wanted to live near the tram ie within walking distance so was looking at Hillsborough, Walkey but couldn't find any suitable houses. I have seen some houses I like both on Daniel Hill Terrace and Midvale Avenue in Upperthorpe (originally i thought I was in Walkley!) ... but have also seen two houses I like on Lyminster Road which is Birley Carr and a bit of a trek to the tram ... can anyone tell me what both these areas are like to live in please? I have not ruled out Walkley or Hillsborough but I can't live in a terrace house because of dogs and shared access to rear that goes with terraced houses ... so if anyone could help me out with Daniel Hill Terrace area of Upperthorpe and Lyminster Road, Birley Carr I'd be very grateful. Ta.

I live in the Daniel Hill area and it is very quiet and still has the feel of old sheffield about it whilst only being just over a mile from town.

Don't rule out all terraced properties, some of them are only two houses to a yard so you do have your own private space and if you get a terraced house which is either the top or bottom one in a yard of five then you can usually fence it off. Okay some of the neighbours may have right of way across your bit to get to their outside loo/garden shed but that wouldn'r be an everyday occurence.
I hope you do find the house of your dreams.

Thanks Dudu and Wallbuilder. I did think that Daniel Hill felt quiet when I have visited and I do like fact that it is only a mile or two from city centre. I have two big dogs, so a terraced is no good if any neighbour can walk thru my garden ... I need something totally private/enclosed. I know not all terraces have rear access so this is what I would be looking for - just seems most terraces in Sheffield do have rear access ways. Cheers guys. ps like the pic of the lab.

Birley Carr is a great area to live in.I'm just selling a house on Carrville Drive which is just off Lyminster road .Its up for sale at 137,000 with winkworths.Iwould still stop there but I am splitting with my wife, but hopefully stopping in the area.
The primary school parson cross c of e is superb with great results and the shopping is good at wadsley bridge.Buses from the bridge run all over Sheffield and ideally placed for Northern General.
My house has a great private garden with a brilliant fish pond ,but if you didn't want is easy to be filled in!

Thanks for your comments....your house is a bit pricey for me on my own! I'm viewing some houses on Lyminster, I'm almost 100% sure that upperthorpe is not for me even though I like Daniel Hill - shame Lyminster is such a trek to the tram, unless there is a shortcut???

Takes my other half about 20 mins to walk to the tram from Birley Carr. He's tried using the bus, but finds it's quicker to walk and get the tram than sitting on the bus in the tailbacks down Penistone Road.

EDIT: bad BAD typing

Thanks. I did think it might take about 20 mins as it looks like its about 1 mile to Middlewood or the one just before that. I don't mind walking to tram, would prefer to find a shorter route to it though but its better than buses - might as well drive my car into city if I am going to sit in traffic in a bus!
