I need to lose some weight (about a stone) and I'm wondering if any of you could help advise me on what diet to follow. I'm considering the Atkins Diet and Weight Watchers. I really want to lose this weight as quickly as possible before I go on holiday next month.

(Before any mentions exercise - I've already started an exercise regime and feel much better for it but need advice on diets please)

Well I am on a diet and have been all year. (sorry this is gonna be a bit long)

All I do is cut out the junk food eg ; crisps, mcdonalds, pizzas (they are the worse thing to eat), chocolate, fried stuff,

Then I went on weightwatchers food, Asda/Tesco/Co-op are the best places for this.

I changed from normal cheese to weightwatchers cheese spread.
Changed the bread as well to brown instead of white.

I substituted what was a chocolate/crisps snack to something more healthy. (Riveta and soup, donthave weightwatchers soup its hobbid, try "slim a soup"

I have cut down on my drinking (this is the hard bit hehe)

Dont have any butter/marg on sandwiches now, change it for low fat Mayonaise, its just the same.

I don`t excerise at all, (cannot spell either) I just watch what I eat and I have lost over 2 stone.

It helps having friends at work also loosing weight as we watch out for each other and help along the way, eaten more fruit now.

Good luck on your diet

Aim to eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables daily and eat small amount of food often, to avoid getting hungry.

You dont need to eat less, you need to eat more healthier, I eat more now that before, but its healthy stuff.

Cutting out the crap stuff makes a big difference, it might seem hard at first, but after a while, you dont miss the stuff.

Don't do the Atkins diet!!!!

It plays havoc with the concentration, and I know somebody who was on it (and considering coming off it) who managed to write a car off whilst the only vehicle on the road :suspect:

if you want the weight to stay off you need to eat less and excercise more. The best way is subsituting high calory/fat things with others, since as far as I know leaving yourself hungry also isnt healthy. And then walk to and from work if possible (especially good in a hilly city like sheffield!). Or just go to the gym more.

I have lost 0.5 stone doing this in 6 months.

hi ive just started a diet, i have weetabix (no sugar which is really hard!) in morning, salad at lunch then have potato and beans or stir fry or hotdogs, doesnt have to be healthy (long as ist not maccyds!) but ensure you walk further, i take the stairs not the lift and make sure i go for walk at lunch rather than sitting at a desk, makes all the difference!good luck! maybe we should all post much we've lost to get a good vibe going (sorry to sound american!) but rather than joining weight watchers and paying five pounds a time!

Yes Weight Watchers sounds good so I've decided to join them. My neighbour is going to join as well so we should succeed with a bit of moral support!

After researching the Atkins Diet, I decided it sounds too unbalanced, even if it works. And apparently it gives you bad breath :gag:

Off topic, but I've had LASIK, MTheo. It was very successful, I'm very happy with the result and the doctor who treated me had actually had LASIK himself.

Hi,

My mate at work started the atkins diet 6 days ago and already has lost 5 pounds. The food she eats is mostly the same, day in day out.

Breakfast - Bacon, Scrambled Egg & Sausage.
Dinner - Tuna & Salad
Tea - Chicken (or any other meat) & salad

Drinks - Water or Diet Pop (No more than 3 cans/glasses a day)

Just thought i'd post this so you could try it if you wanted too x x x

I agree go to weight watchers over 2 years i lost a massive 5st and because i done it slowly i did not get any saggey skin (that is until i had a baby ha ha) i am still doing it now, it just ends up being apart of your lifestyle.
and if its only 1 stone you want to lose you should do in within a couple of months
Good Luck

I'm on a low carb diet right now - but ONLY to win a bet with a mate as to who can lose the most weight. Not the most sensible thing in the world to do...but...must....not...lose...bet!

Atkins/South Beach etc are pretty much guaranteed to lose you pounds very rapidly (I lost 10lbs in the first week), but it's really not a long term solution to weight loss and is possibly bad for you.

Losing weight is very simple - you must burn through more calories than you take in. Cutting the calories and exercise are the only true methods until they really do invent miracle pills that selectively burn body fat out of your system. But - it's hard work and is not an overnight 'cure'.

Actually - the best thing to go by is loss of % body fat. If you're exercising, you should be putting on a little or a lot (depending how you work out) in muscle. Your weight might stay the same or increase, but your body fat % is reducing.

Good luck with the weight loss. If you're looking for a long term plan, I recommend the 'Body for Life' book. Eat right, work out...and you're there. :)
