Hello

I volunteer doing dog walking and I took this 8 month lab out for an 1 hour walk. During the walk he kept spitting out this white form stuff. It looked just like shaving form/bubble bath. I mentioned it to the workers at the rescue centre and they said it was nothing to worry about and it was because he was pulling on the lead. Is this true? Ive never seen it before and been dog walking loads of times.

Thanks

hi , that may well be the case as the pulling causes a narrowing of the airway ,but there could be other reasons such as infection causing the aiway to contract. If he is only doing it when on walks maybe a Halti or harness would be better to walk him on .

an hours quite a long walk for an 8 month old dog, i know labs are high energy but at his age he should only be getting about 40mins. is he used to getting out for an hour? maybe hes very unfit and it was perhaps a little too much for him? well done you for helping out though. annax

Was he sniffing around a lot? some dogs drool a lot when they smell where other dogs have been, especially males.

lets not miss the obvious here, maybe you should have the dog take a blood test for and viral infections such as rabies. ( Im a biomedical scientist, and have studied rabies, and know the symptoms <-- it doesnt always have to be attached to aggresion )

I thought there was no rabies in England :suspect:

There is no rabies here in dogs or cats, if you know otherwise a link would be interesting to read :)

The rescue centre said he had been checked over by a vet and he was ok. They also said 1 hour walk was ok, although we did stop for about 15 minutes inbetween.

He was sniffing the grass alot and I was unclear if he was trying to lick or eat the grass at some points?

Who do you walk for? I'd be interested in doing some rescue dog walking.

my lab is 7 years old and froths at the mouth when out on the lead ; this is nothing to worry about. beware of constant drooling like a tap dripping as the dog may have swallowed somthing toxic as i found out acouple of weeks ago it was grit from the road gritters .went to vets and he got a jab to sort him out ,he was o.k the next day.

Oh he will have found an interesting scent there probably of a bitch, some male dogs do salivate a lot when they find a smell, there is a proper name for it but I can't remember it now, I am sure that is all that it is.

Get yourself down to Mosborough kennels.

Please/

Re: the dog, it probably will have been a mixture of excitement, salivation and the need for a drink. My boxer froths a little when he's getting a dry mouth.
