View Full Version : Stars who died prematurely.

I am compiling a list of famous, well loved people who died prematurely. I know it sounds a little morbid but all will be revealed down the track. Can anybody suggest any names of dearly departed famous people who died before their time?
Examples are;
Buddy Holly
Jim Reeves
Mark Bolan
John Lennon
Steve Biko
I would prefer the names of famous, well admired people rather than such fiends as Hitler and Harold Shipman and Tony Blair. Can you name a few?
Thanks for looking at this thread, Andrea

Re: Stars who died prematurely.
Freddie Mercury
Kirk Cobain
Colin McCrea

The lesser known cousin of Kurt Cobain?

If we are doing Sheffield only, then perhaps Marti Caine would be a good start?

Other famous people who died young I can think of only recently, are such as Jacko, Heath Ledger, Natasha Richardson.. Susan Tsvangarai, the wife of the Zimbabwean politician...

Christopher Reeve and his wife Dana. Tom Hurndall and Rachael Corrie.

Basically, he fought the lawn, but the lawn won.

Porcaro (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Porcaro) died in a gardening accident on August 5, 1992, at the age of 38. He was spraying insecticide in his garden and inhaled too much of the spray, triggering a heart attack. An autopsy revealed a serious heart condition that had been previously undiagnosed.

More farming/gardening related musician deaths here. (http://elvispelvis.com/farming.htm)

Merle Watson, for instance.

On the night of October 22, 1985, Merle was restless and unable to sleep. Some time after midnight, he went to the basement, tied on his nail apron, and proceeded to trim some red beech paneling that had been misgrooved, making it ready to panel his basement walls. The saw blade hit an undetected fault in the grain and a large piece of hardwood splintered off, embedding itself in the muscle of Merle's upper arm. He grabbed his all-weather jacket, fumbled around in the pocket for the key to his farm tractor, and left to seek help. Spotting a lighted house at the summit of a steep hill, he continued in that direction, praying he would not black out before he got there. With the aid of the couple whose home he had come to, Merle successfully removed the huge splinter.

His wound bandaged, but weak from the trauma and loss of blood, Merle left to return home. Tragically, on the way back down the steep incline of the couple's drive, the tractor brakes locked, leading it over a high embankment. Merle Watson was thrown off the large tractor which then landed on him, killing him instantly.

Ronnie Barker was 76, which wasn't a bad-old innings, really- especially when you compare it to Richard Beckinsale's 31 years.

Leonard Rossiter, whilst not having the writing genius that Barker did, was still a brilliant comedy-actor, he died aged just 57 which was somewhat premature.

Eric Morecambe was only 58 when he passed, again yes, he had far more waiting to be released. Ernie Wise was 73, when he died, which isn't to be sniffed at.

Pete and Dud:- Pete Cook was 57, which is, admittedly not that old. Dudley Moore was 66.

Kenny Wiliams was 62, Sid James was alao relatively young 62 when he died, Hawtrey was 73. Tommy Cooper was 63.

Maybe it's the stress of constantly having to be "funny"?

I would prefer the names of famous, well admired people rather than such fiends as Hitler and Harold Shipman and Tony Blair. Can you name a few?
Thanks for looking at this thread, Andrea

I thought Tony Blair was still alive!

Any way you can add these to your list.

John Kennedy

Bobby Kennedy

Marilyn Munroe

Martin Luther King.

BRUCE LEE.

Brandon Lee

Perhaps one or two of these jazz and blues greats just got old before their time, but drugs and booze likely did away with a few:
.....Sonny Boy Williamson 34

I believe Sonny Boy Williamson was born in 1899 and I saw him at the Esquire around 1963/4 I think he died about a year after, so I think that he would have been around 65 or 66, still too young.

Pete Duel who starred in "Alias Smith and Jones" was only 31 when he died.

There is also a good side to dying young.

Adolf Hitler
Joseph Goebbels
Herman Goering
Heinrich Himmler
Reinhard Heydrich
Adolf Eichman

Just think what these guys could have achieved, had Germany won the war.

I don't think they were young, except maybe Heydrich and the world is a better place without them.
