Anyone been to Sharm el Sheik since the bobmings?

My in laws are due to go in December and are staying at the Moevenpick Jolie Ville Resort close to where the one of the bombs was.

They are worried a) about other attacks, b) will there be repair work going on when they stay there? c)what is the general atmosphere like there now?

They are in their early 70's should they cancel?

I've just got back from Sharm El Sheikh and was there when the bombings happened, although the resort we stayed in was a few km away from where it happened (it happended in Naama Bay and we were down on the Souther tipp about 10km away).

The areas bombed have been covered over with huge tarpaulins (sp.) so you can't actually see whats going on, but I would expect there to be some sort of rebuilding going on in these areas. Naama Bay is open and people have been getting on with their holidays but obviously it's been quieter since it happened as people have been cancelling their holiday in the immediate aftermath.

The atmosphere was good, tourists haven't been afraid to go back and the egyptians are working very hard to make people feel safe. At the moment, security is high - lots of armed police wandering around the place, but then there always is (they take tourist security seriously over there, and that has only increased since the bombs).

When your parents go, I would expect that most of the repair work would have been completed, and the areas round there were already returning to something approaching normality when we left.

The most important thing to remember however, is that anywhere in the world could be a target - earlier this year it was Turkey, last year it was Madrid and before that it was Bali. The world the way it is at the moment, if you avoid going to certain places because of the risk of bombings, you wouldn't go anywhere.

My advice would be for them to go - it is a wonderful part of the world, truly beautiful and very very relaxing. I've had the holiday of my life over there and would be more than happy going back again.

Thanks for that Limpetboy.

My Mother lives in Torrevieja nr Alicante where 2 years ago they had an ETA bomb in a burger bar. (fortunatly no one injured). This doesn't stop anyone going about their day to day business, nor me enjoying the break & the sun when I go to visit her!

I'll pass your info onto my in-laws.

My boyfriends there now with his family and I'm right worried about him!
He says everythings fine, even though his hotel was so close to where the bombs were some of the windows were broken.
He says there aren't as many tourist as there usually is though as many people have chosen to cancel their holidays.
I dont think it's worth cancelling though.
When you think about it, its probably the safest place to be as there is extra security.
