I'm about to start a painting in homage of the youths of the 70's who used to razz around my estate on motorbikes all bloody sunday afternoon. but i have conflicting thoughts as to which bikes were used, i remember my mates at the time saying they were 'fizz50's'
but i notice they are mopeds and i'm sure it was a yamaha model that was very popular at the time.
were you a teenager in the 70's and do you remember which bikes were popular with the hudie equivelent of our generation?
cheers

Hi A fizzy was actually a Yamaha FS1E
a once very popular 50cc moped, but now look so old fashioned they could be agricultural machinery

Popular Yamaha's where the RD 250s and 400s great bikes.
Then the super quick RD250 LC and RD350LC they became cult bikes and largely to blame for the 250cc learner limit dropping to 125cc.
The LCs where real two stroke racing bikes with amazing handling, tagged a hooligan machine, but it was soooo tempting.
Ahh i love the smell of two stroke in the morning.
top replys! thanks for the picture links Muddy, they are ideal. i seem to remember them looking like them. and i like your hooligan bike twist fortysummat. i'll check out the bike in question.
all the best

I remember there were a range of RD bikes from yamaha.
And they used X for how high up the scale they were. I'm not exactly sure about this but it was something like this :-
RD50 X1
RD100 X2
RD125 X3
RD 200 X4
RD 250 X5
RD 350 X7
I remember seeing the bikes with the RD350 X7 on the panels and definitely remember RD50 X1. Does anybody else remember this sequence? Was there an X6 ?

I think they may have been Suzuki's, a mate had a Suzi 250x7 for a while which was a new version of the GT.
some did have RD 250X7 for a while but i think Suzuki droped the RD bit when the Yamaha's became most popular.
Suzuki also did a 200X5 too so they might be what you remember.
The RD meant 'Race Developed' but once the Yam LCs (liquid cooled) hit the streets the X7s died a death.
I bet the X7 fans would disagree though.
