View Full Version : Online poker anyone?
spyro2000 13-08-2005, 03:25 Any poker players out there?
Anyone up for some online poker?
Just for a bit of fun. I get bored.
If so maybe we can set up a meeting on one of the poker sites
Sounds like a plan - we could organise an online poker club, make sure there are no card sharps out there then go for the real thing?
Anyway - good idea, im in if im about.
fnkysknky 13-08-2005, 14:13 I'm up for it - what poker site do you use/suggest? I usually play on UltimateBet

I normally play on the Ladbrokes software but Ill play on whatever anyone wants to play on.
I've been looking for a poker mod for phpbb. If any of the geeks here have come across one (or for another open source forum, or Java plugin etc) please let me know, & I'll host a Sheffield poker club for you all, it'd make a nice addition...
frenchfrie 13-08-2005, 17:11 Lets bring it on.
Specially if you guys can go for a spot of Omaha Hi Lo.
Texas Hold `em is fine for Channel 4 and Sky who edit programmes to project that variant as interesting but truth be known it ain't. Most hands are won before the flop or on the turn. Omaha Hi Lo encourages participation and is the most exciting and inclusive, all imho of course.
ps I'm a `Pokerstars` man myself but happy to go with the flow.
spyro2000 13-08-2005, 17:17 Well Im a Texas Hold Em man myself, but happy to learn something else.
Phanerothyme 13-08-2005, 18:00 in face to face play, I think dealer's choice is the best bet. No single poker variant is best.
5 card stud is still the most hard nosed, unless of course you play brag.
Mexican Stud is good too, but my all time favourite has to be Lame Brains Hi Lo where the final flop determines whether its misere or not. See people struggle to keep one good hand and one bad out of 10 cards.
So - whats happening with this then, are we having a 'virtual' poker night?
spyro2000 23-08-2005, 13:57 Well im still up for it, but we still havent come up with a decision on what we are playing and when. :(
Greenback 23-08-2005, 13:59 How about a real one down at Napoleon's on Penistone Road? They have tournaments twice a week, I think. Not sure what the cost is, but I'd be up for a dabble at it if anyone else is interested.
Online, I play at Sportingodds.com. Not a great site in terms of graphics, prize pools, etc, but I have had a couple of big tournament successes there.

Nice one, ill check out sportingodds.
Im gonna be at Napoleons this Friday night actually.
RunningFree 23-08-2005, 14:08 I'd be up for taking some money off you guys/gals.
spyro2000 23-08-2005, 14:11 Ok well we should play online for free 1st of all, then maybe a casino meet one of the nights
I think we need a poll to get this underway. Let us know what sites/software you recommend. Once theres a decent list ill ask a mod to put a poll in the thread.
My favourites....
Ladbrokes
bet365
WPTonline
Greenback 23-08-2005, 14:28 I'll pay anywhere (except Betfair, which goes reeeeeeally slowly). But if we're going to have an online Sheffield Forum game, it will have to be at a site that allows private games so that no American sharks can sweep up – anyone know of a good site that offers this?
EDIT: Found a reputable site that does, Pokerstars.
spyro2000 23-08-2005, 14:40 Niceone, I havent took a look at that site yet but im up for it. so are we all agreed on Pokerstars?
If so all we need now is a meeting time, perhaps we can meet on MSN or something.
Yup - sounds good. I'm in!
Greenback 23-08-2005, 15:16 Sorry, after looking into it I think you need to have played a certain amount of hands to be entitled to set up a private game at Pokerstars...
We could go for a site that has cheap-ish Sit 'n' Go tournaments, but it would need to be one where you don't need to pay a lot to join.
spyro2000 23-08-2005, 15:21 I was looking at bet365 jsut now, and there is a fee of about $10 dollars to set up a private table BUT...
if we go on bet65 we can just go on the free tables as there is ALWAYS a 10 seater table that is totally empty. I had a look on the other sites that i use and they hardly have any empty tables, but bet365 is always guaranteed to have empty tables for us to take over
RunningFree 24-08-2005, 11:11 OK - what about Friday Night?
Just a question though - you said play for free first, Im sure you can't can you? I though it would always be money.

Could THIS american card shark play please ? :hihi:
Dont see why not, the more the merrier!
Why dont we suggest a few dates, then have a poll of the most popular ones and pick the winner?
Just to be awkward, this weekend is no good for me as I'm away, but I'll catch the next one if this is when it goes ahead!
Game On! :suspect:
My suggestions:
Mon 29th (bank holiday)
Fri 2nd
