View Full Version : Boston Legal is Will Shatner Playing or real desy 12-08-2005, 21:54 Not many people rate BL but I think WS is great in it. crowth 08-10-2006, 22:06 Boston legal is my favourite show. Uncanny how this post was made on my birthday over a year ago. Has anyone else made the life changing decision to watch this amazing show? It has received several awards in the US, and rightly so. What makes the show is the friendship between Denny Crane (William Shatner) and Alan Shore (James Spader), who are two brilliant lawyers, one past his best and one a very self-aware and unconventional man. It is just a bit unusual for a US show, rather subversive, darkly comic, topical and political, aware of itself. Regularly they make references to the fact they're in a TV show: "Ah, there you are. I've hardly seen you this episode", "These past few years I've felt this inexplicable compulsion to be somewhat redeeming as if I were some series regular on a television show", "If they were new guys they would have shown up in the season premiere". I'm certain if this weren't aired on UK Living or whatever its on, and was on C4 or BBC2, it would be huge over here. I really can't exclaim just how wonderful it is. Since I first saw it I've been telling all my mates how amazing it is. They quickly agreed, and are now devoted fans like me. The Season 1 boxset has been out for a while, the Season 2 boxset comes out in the States in November so hopefully it should be out by the new year in the UK. Guest stars have included Michael J. Fox, Rupert Everett, Heather Locklear, and Tom Selleck and the regular cast includes Rene Auberjonois (Odo of DS9), Candice Bergen (I'm not sure if Murphy Brown ever made it over here), Betty White (Rose of The Golden Girls). It really is a fantastic TV show. A tangent would be the criminal lack of The Practice (the Cheers to Boston Legal's Frasier) on British TV and the fact that none of them have yet been released on DVD. Wonderful television, everyone should give it a go. pattricia 08-10-2006, 22:44 Not many people rate BL but I think WS is great in it. The t.v. critics liked it over here.Got good reviews from them Not seen it myself yet. poppins 08-10-2006, 22:48 The t.v. critics liked it over here.Got good reviews from them Not seen it myself yet. I watch it some times, the actings good, and it's quite funny, last weeks was about the midget Lawyer, looks like she's joining the firm too now. crowth 08-10-2006, 23:12 The acting is good all round, but James Spader has the privilege of playing a character who out-shines the rest. He won an Emmy for Best Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 2005 (alongside Shatner who won Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series). I've not seen such a fascinating character on TV, possibly ever. I have a feeling though with the mature male bonding going on between Shatner and Spader it might be something the fellas would identify with more. I saw last week's epside with the midget lawyer too, with her appearing below Denny's line of sight whenever he was talking about her. Alan has taken a bit of a back seat to the other goings-on so I'm looking forward to him taking centre-stage again. pattricia 08-10-2006, 23:12 I watch it some times, the actings good, and it's quite funny, last weeks was about the midget Lawyer, looks like she's joining the firm too now. Aye, you're right, the epside poppins referred to hasn't aired here yet; I'm not sure when Season 3 starts in the UK. I've only seen it thanks to the joys of the internet. (I also buy the boxsets when they come out, which I suppose balances things out) |
