View Full Version : Poor Customer service ... are we just expected to accept this?
bertie749 12-08-2005, 20:04 It my time to rant....
I enquired about a mirror from ''Next'' and was told that there would be a five week delay as it was being shipped from Italy ..... On ordering the mirror i was then told it would be seven weeks.... what were they doing blowing the bl**dy glass themselves... but i excepted that as at least i had a date to go by, how wrong I was!!!
That was nearly 3 months ago and 'Next' have just put another nail in the coffin of the poor customer service......
The first phone I made after seven week was to find out when the mirror would be delivered to be told the next day .... the next day arrived an the only thing I recieved was a phone call saying it would be another 5-7 working days.... and now after that period i have been told today that the initial mirror order was cancelled due to supply and demand ( someone else has my mirror, come on own up who has it !!)
I have now been given a date of 10th September ( 4 months .... it took less time to buy my house!!!) , just for the mirror to come into the counrty... I would have to wait longer than that to actually recieve it.
Ok, ok I know its only a mirror but it is the principal of the thing and without principals who are we.
So to end my rant there is a picture beneth of the mirror I want .... can some one please advise me where else I can get one from because certainly not fror NEXT !!

Tell them to stick the Mirror where the sun don't shine, and then demand a full refund. Your rant is justified

You're a stepdad?
banesmabes 12-08-2005, 22:06 I hope you manage to get a mirror you like! I had a similar and very stupid problem last year. I wanted to buy a cheap wardrobe for my new flat, so I bought one from Argos. It arrived as promised within 14 days. Only problem was it was one door handle short.
The door handles were only made of plastic and about 6 inches long so I rang them up and asked for one to be put in the post. I was told this would be done. 2 weeks later I hadn't received it so I called again. This time I was told that they couldn't post me just one handle because they don't do that - they have to replace the WHOLE wardrobe!
I explained that this wouldn't be possible as I had now assembled the wardrobe and was not prepared to dismantle it and have to do a new one. When I asked why they couldn't post me a door handle they said it was because the wardrobes were shipped entire from China and they couldn't allow their staff in the Uk to open the boxes and extract a handle because of health and safety reasons. So instead they had to order me an entire new wardrobe but told me to just go down to the lorry, open up the box, pull out the door handle and send the rest of the wardrobe back!
If this wasn't ridiculous enough they then told me I would have to wait 2 months before another wardrobe would be available. After two months this was extended by another 4 weeks. FINALLY, 4 months after I received the original wardrobe the huge Argos truck pulled onto my road so that I could go down and pull out this 6-inch piece of plastic and send the two huge boxes containing the rest of the now useless wardrobe back to Argos!

Have you tried that Mirror shop on Abbydale road? Their shop seems to be bursting at the seams with mirrors of all shapes and sizes and cheap too.
Is this a near enough match? (http://www.mirrorstoday.co.uk/glaciermirror.htm) If not, the website is worth having a look at ;)
weenireeni 13-08-2005, 10:04 theres a very similar mirror in the argoes big ones catalogue, £60 i think, i know cos i have one but got it from a carboot for a 5er! please dont hurt me!
If you're still looking, I say an almost identical mirror in the window of After Dark Lighting on Rockingham Gate today for £145.
bertie749 13-08-2005, 15:54 Thanks again everyone...... I am supposed to be contacted this Monday-Tuesday so they can give me an update and I can tell them what to do with it ( polite as possible).... I'll keep you posted on the response I get.
I am waiting to see what they say but starting to look for an alternative when I get back from my hols as I know there are two mirror shops on Abbey Dale Road.... got a bit of a mirror fettish and bought from them both in the past.
Sounds like typical UK customer service complete with the "it's not my problem" and "what am I supposed to do about it?" attitudes.
hi bertie !!
i read your story with interest as i had an identical story with Next-an overmantle gothic mirror-about 18months ago!it was exactly the same!countless excuses-my particular mirror broken in transit from factory,had to order me another one etc,etc..At one point after countless phonecalls and wasted time i truly lost it with some poor girl on the phone and eventually the mirror arrived one dark winter night!they must have known i was p***ed off as they rang up some little courrier woman whovery carefully brought it me in her car saying she'd never had to deliver a mirror b4 and they'd rung her up and told her it was URGENT[AFTER 8 WEEKS!!??}
I use Next a lot as i do think their goods are quality and good value for money but i have to admit they wind me up!i ordered some clothes in the sale recently and they took 4 weeks to come even tho they said they were 'in stock'!this in stock business has happened more than once!my husband can't stand 'em!!
good luck with the mirror!?:help:
bertie749 17-08-2005, 08:18 Well I said I woudl keep you all updated on the mirror situation....... It is now Wednesday and not one phone call from Next has been recieved even though I was promised a phone call Monday, the latest Tuesday....... I refuse to get anoyed about it anymore.
I am ashamed that in this country a persons word is no longer their bond and maybe we have a good lessons to learn from our overseas cousins
bertie749 02-09-2005, 09:56 Ok so it arrived last night and guess what ...... yip it is cracked and has to go back but I fell in love all over again! and its even better in the flesh ( ok Bertie this is only a mirror).
I have been to the two places on Abbeydale Road at the weekend but the only one I like would have cost me a further £100 onto of the price of the mirror from Next.
I contacted Next again and only got excuses and the next (pardon the pun) delivery is in 2 weeks and I would therefore have to wait a further 3 weeks for the dam thing.
So that is me a big waiting game ....... but I am lucky as it looks as though I will be getting some elses mirror just as they did to me.
squeakyclean 02-09-2005, 10:04 I have had many problems with poor customer service so was really taken shocked by this.... I have a brabantia bread bin with a plastic handle, A few days ago I managed to melt the handle by plonking a red hot roasting dish down next to it, anyway I sent an email to brabantia asking if they did a replacement handle, I didn't get a reply BUT a brand new handle within 2 days! Hows that for customer service?
bertie749 02-09-2005, 10:17 I'm so green with envy ;)
Look @ this for poor customer service :P
