View Full Version : Sheffield Parkour Meetings Thread (Free-Running)
SHANE-D-PAIN 12-08-2005, 19:22 I have made this thread to let everyone know about the Parkour 'Jams' being held in Sheffield.
We are aware that many people are interested in taking up Parkour but dont know how to get started and are a little put off by doing it on their own!
Well, there is, infact, a decent sized group of people already doing it in Sheffield and we want even more to join us!
If you would like any particular info on anything then please dont hesitate to send me a PM, thats what they are there for afterall.
If you are unsure about what exactly parkour is then please checkout www.parkour.com & www.urbanfreeflow.com ( the latter has some nice tutorials too )
Anyway, back to the point, we are meeting tomorrow ( Saturday the 13th of August 2005 ) - We meet at the Odeon in Town at around 11-12.30 and cover some of the well known landmarks in Sheffield alongside quite a few of the best hidden spots.
Its always a friendly environment and everyone is willing to help.
Damn, I thought this was something to do with the Jamacian bobsleigh team.....:P
SHANE-D-PAIN 07-09-2005, 12:58 Sorry about the lack of updates on this thread people,
The next meeting is at 12 on the Odeon in town, you can't really miss us!
And remember, anyone can come along!
At 12? On which day? Is that 12 midday or midnight?
Alienater 08-09-2005, 12:42 Could I turn upto this without doing a single bit of parkour before? Or is it where poeple who can already do it meet up? I don't just mean I'm no good at it or only done a lil bit, im talking about completely fresh! lol

Midday obviously, who the bloody hell would go out in town at mid night? Theres too many people like you around.....
And yeah anyone can come, no matter the skill level or lack of it, as long as you actually do something of course!
We will do our best to teach you.
We are meeting again this Saturday, same time, same place....
SHANE-D-PAIN 12-10-2005, 21:38 15th October Meet-Up

Please feel free to check out www.sheffieldparkour.com and view our gallery and the videos.
If you have any questions then feel free to ask here or email srounce (at) gmail.com
Thanks and see you there if you are interested in doing something different. Oh and dont let the weather put you off cause we have certain places to go that are covered.
pro_moto_r 30-10-2005, 09:40 glad to hear that you are accepting of total novices!! i have been wanting to try parkour for a while now, but was put off by doing it by alone, breaking a leg and being in agony in a gutter somewhere!!
im 25 and would really like to give it a go - when are you next meeting and where?(i did a bit of research on Northernparkour.com and understand that there is no freerunning/parkour at the Odeon anymore)
cheers

SHANE-D-PAIN 01-11-2005, 21:36 Not sure where we are meeting from now on but I had a rather harsh warning along with a police officer prompting us to move on las saturday so the Odeon as a Definate no no!
I cannot PM as new user.
BAsically really psyched to find this thread! I occassionally run on my own in Shef and would love to meet some other people who do it and see their venues.
Please could you PM me Shane?
Thanks,
Huffy

SHANE-D-PAIN 17-12-2005, 02:07 Last minute reminder before I decide to get a few hours sleep in.
We are going to be meetin on the Hallam University Entrance (where the circular stepped area is) at 11:00-12:30 if anyone wants to come along and check it out.
SHANE-D-PAIN 21-12-2005, 13:25 If anyone wants to watch we will be around town on Xmas Eve, a few of us in the festive mood, wearing Santa Costumes. We are planning to do some Parkour around Fargate and the Peace Gardens and hope that by jumping around as Santa we will raise spirits and get people in the mood for the day ahead! :)
hey everyone, this is Ben from Sheffield Parkour
i'm a friend of shane's, and i regularly attend these weekly jams in sheffield.
just an update; we now meet on the Hallam University Entrance Circle, but it's still around 12:00 noon.
if anyone feels interested about the idea of the 'sport' but does not feel they would be suitable to do parkour with us, then don't hesitate to contact me or shane (see my signature for contact details)
seriously, parkour is for anyone, whether you are male/female, 15/50, whatever you are, there's no reason you should not do parkour if you want to. we are a well organised group of ages 14-26, and we often meet with other (often more experienced) traceurs (the word used to define somebody who takes part in the art of parkour) from around the country.
Sheffield Parkour (http://www.sheffieldparkour.com) is in association with the parkour directory of the north of england, Northern Parkour (http://www.northernparkour.com)
the latest video we have made was from last saturday when three of us visited Manchester, Click Here for the SPK videos page (http://www.sheffieldparkour.com/?id=videos) or Click Here to view the Manchester Video (http://media.putfile.com/mancs)
SHANE-D-PAIN 06-01-2006, 18:46 Ben, You don't have a signature.....
ANyway, yeah, we meet at the Hallam Square, there is a map up at www.SheffieldParkour.com where you can also view our latest video, along with all the rest! Don't suppose anyone on here saw us prancing around dressed as Santas near Fargate and the fountains?
Anyway, we are meeting tomorrow at the time and place described by Ben.
Hope to see soem new faces come along! ;)
Crayfish 06-01-2006, 23:10 This sounds fun :)
I'd love to come but I wouldn't be able to make it till about 12.30... what time do you go on till?
SHANE-D-PAIN 07-01-2006, 04:24 We go on till about 7pm, I shall PM you my mobile number now.
Remember anyone is welcome to come along so bring your friends too if you think they will enjoy it.
Here is a pic of a few of us on Xmas Eve ;)

Crayfish 07-01-2006, 11:54 No phone number see I
But I might catch up with you next week
SHANE-D-PAIN 08-01-2006, 00:39 Huh?! Could swear I sent it! :S
You live in Hillsborough?
How old are you? I currently attend hillsborough college.
we meet at 12:00 on the hallam, and we tend to wait around til about half past, but if you could confirm that you were going to come one saturday, we could arrange to wait for you or meet you elsewhere.
same applies to anyone who is interested. before you ask "how good do you have to be?" there are no restrictions, anyone can come along reguardless of age, gender, ability, knowledge of parkour or anything. just come if you're interested and wana see what it's like, maybe give it a go
sheffieldism 11-01-2006, 10:17 The freerunning programs that were on TV in the past year or so have been amazing, the skill and balls involved is pure class. But i never realised how big a scene there is in sheffield. Id love to come down and take some photos for your website sometime? im also starting out as a cameraman, so if you ever need any vids making or footage shooting let me know. But what would the possibility be of me comig down to take some photos??
Gareth
SHANE-D-PAIN 11-01-2006, 21:52 Feel free to turn up whenever you like gareth. I shall email you thursday night to remind you if you have not replied to this thread.
Just hope its dry on Saturday, we still get alot done and it makes no difference for newer people but we cant do too much when its all wet and slippy. Have to stick to drilling the basics.
sheffieldism 12-01-2006, 07:36 thanks for the reply, im not sure about this week but if you pm me your email address i will definately be up for doing you some pics for your website. But more importantly i want to see parkour with my own eyes. Cheers
