...and I'm afraid the game is up.

For those who are interested, it was O'Sullivan v. Selby but could have been just about any big game over the last few years. Incredible fightback of the kind that would have prompted a stewards enquiry in horse racing (and that's bent enough).

As a player of a decent standard, the fact is that the shoulders of the pockets have been rounded off and they might as well put a big funnel over the pockets. Shots which crash into the near shoulder and would, on earlier tables with defined shoulders have missed, now routinely and inexplicably go in.

Add in superfine cloth, 'nerves' and the old stand-by, the 'kick' and the game is being manipulated.

It now resembles wrestling where frames are given on a tit-for-tat basis to manufacture the usual, 'thrilling' decisive last frame

I think you've been at the wine too much...

Actually, I don't drink but will consider starting if I can come up with witty, well-thought out comments like yours.

I agree with you about the pockets but all week the players were complaining that the pockets and shoulders were much tighter than usual.
I thought it was a classic match with some remarkable shots played and some excellent safety play as well. If Ronnie had decided to play safe from that green he tried to cut he would more than likely won.

Surely your post is a **** take?

All week the commentators were saying how the pockets are much less forgiving now than they used to be. I'm assuming you have one of these tables and regularly knock up 147's sniggering about how easy it is?

Maybe you would prefer a 10 - 2 final that's over before the last mid session interval but most snooker fans like to see a bit of excitement. Ronnie is perfectly capable of throwing it away himself, but Selby upped his game to a new level and for that he has to be congratulated.

Or, we could say it was all a fix and someone programmed Selby to perform better and aim for the areas of the cushion that direct the balls to the pockets...

Agree, some of the snooker in the final and the Williams game was the best I've seen in years.
