we own a house near Dixon road, S6 and have had some high damp readings from a few walls around and above the cellar. Can anyone let me know if they have problems with cellar flooding or damp in this area or if it's quite common? Is it anything I should be worried about? :help:
Thanks

It would be a hell of a flood if Dixon road was flooded. Most houses in the Dixon road area have at some time been subjected to high moisture content readings. It is usually rectified by having DPC installed but check if the property has already had one done, they are usually guaranteed for quite some time.

It does not need a flood to fill a cellar. Heavy rain can do it.
We had a house in Eckington, the cellar would flood to about 300mm after heavy rain and stay flooded for a week or two after.
You should be able to see the water line on the walls if the cellar has flooded in the past.
If you have damp rising on internal wall a dpc wont help.
I would remove skirting on the damp wall and make sure the plaster does not go all the way down to the floor. A gap will help to stop the damp bleeding (Capililary action) up the plaster.
