View Full Version : Banana Dumping Mystery!
What is it with the bananas on Northumberland Road in Crookes? Every now and again they appear in pile on the pavement, in their skins, then putrify into nothing over the following few days. It's a complete mystery to me where they come from and why they're dumped on the road alongside the Goodwin Sports Ground. Does anyone have any information about this bonkers banana situation that can help solve the mystery?
Can't help solve the mystery but I can confirm that you're not making it up!!
Nomme
Martin_s 19-12-2003, 13:51 Perhaps it's someone who thinks that students are a bunch of half assed monkeys and who's thinking they need feeding..
:loopy:  :D
Not my own views I should add but the truth is probably stranger than any wild theories we come up with :)
Classic Rock 19-12-2003, 14:46 Sounds like a 'slippery' situation to me.....;)
Yes, another sightee here, I nearly stepped in that mess on the way to work this morning. It's weird, they're in exactly the same spot every time they appear. The first possibility that springs to mind is obviously that the culprits are genetically modified super-monkies marking their territory, although I have no firm proof of this as of yet.

They're invading the forum! Take cover!:help:

Are you sure it's them and not these ?

Were there many small insects around?
After all, time flies like an arrow and fruit flies like a banana.....
(This is my first ever post - hope I do it right, and 'hello!')
According to a chap who put a sign up asking about the bananas last week, (who I emailed because I was curious too) a man from the council told him that it was a local indian restaurant fly-tipping them, as even black-bagged and binned, they still attract lots of flys and bugs, so the owner doesn't want them near the restaurant. The council are looking to catch the mystery bananas red (or yellow?) handed soon. Apparently. Alledgedly. Etc.
Disco_Cat 25-07-2004, 21:11 why are they seperated from their skins?
I would guess because they have been prepped for use but then not used. If they hadn't been peeled they wouldn't have to throw them away! But once a banana has been peeled it goes brown really quickly... although I'm not sure why on earth they regularly peel so many extra.

medic25uk 28-07-2004, 19:25 ..a fresh batch out there today... and a female friend of mine was flashed by a dodgy geezer in exactly the same spot last week... cant think that the two would be related unless he was unloading a pile from his skanky Y-fronts
KATIEB_23 03-03-2005, 08:01 Surely SOMEONE must know for definate how they got there/why/who does it?!
From the date of the first post on this thread it seems it has been going on for YEARS!
Don_Kiddick 03-03-2005, 08:37 TOP TIP:
Don't moan about them!
Take them home & put them 'round your borders, tomato plants & roses...
they decay quickly & introduce lots of potash into the soil which is excellent for fruiting & flowering plants!!!!
mjlacey21 03-03-2005, 09:15 I know this is really irrelevant - I just have to tell people cos I was so excited! Was walking home the other day and saw somebody slip over. Closer inspection revealed that they had actually slipped on a banana skin! It's like living in a cartoon!!!
Sorry I am very over-excited about the whole incident!
holster100 03-03-2005, 12:51 I too have seen the mystery piles of bananas. Myself and a mate have a number of theories. It's been going on for years.
I've often thought it may be the University sports teams dumping their excess fruit after big game? Perhaps they buy them in for half time, and dump the leftovers off the coach after the match?
Does it happen on a Wednesday normally? That's match day.
I always thought it was the flying monkeys from the University Experimental Gardens in Broomhill.
The walls around that place are so high, I'm sure it's to keep them in. Obviously it's not working!
Hi to another newbie!
Flying monkeys? :wow: Near the university? Now how many sightings have there been of those in that neck of the woods? :suspect: :hihi: I wonder why?
I have seen the very same pile of bananas and skins a few times on Smithywood Rd pavement not far from Woodseats. I thought they had been regurgitated by a circus elephant.
Sam Miguel 03-03-2005, 17:28 This is extremely upsetting. Sheffield doesn't want putrid bananas in the middle of its pavements.
If anyone has spare bananas go and throw them on the pavements of Leeds.
