They will probably be one of these door knocking sales companies that seem to proliferate in Sheffield. They will promise him the earth and have him working til 10 or 11 at night for less than peanuts. It's up to your son of course, but I wouldn't touch them with a very long barge pole.

Yes I know that's what I'm afraid of. He's 18 and trying to get part time work to fit in with college. It's a catch 22 situation employers want experience which he can't get until he's employed.

I agree, these companies are a waste of space. They should be closed down.

i went to an interview once with a company called cobra marketing they were based at the bottom of the moor. It was door-to-door sales but they didn't tell me, it was when i had to get in a car wit 3 other chaps and drive to rotherham or somewhere that i realised. If they said up front it was door-to-door i would've said i wasn't interested, instead i ended up wasting a full day. Did they think i wouldn't realise it was door-to-door selling?

Kingfisher, Cobra, Sheffield ME, JMS Marketing, Pace Direct... avoid them all like the plague.

Went for a preliminary interview today with Pace Direct just to check them out; immediate alarm bells when the interviewer claimed the "company" (which doesn't exist according to Companies House!) has 32 offices around the UK, despite the job advert saying they were a small firm with 2 offices in Sheffield and Leeds. Another ad stated they had offices in Liverpool, Newcastle, Sheffield and one opening in 2010 in Leeds.

Wow, a company that doesn't officially exist and apparent fluctuates in size on a day to day basis! Where do I sign? Needless to say I wont be going to the second, "in-the-field" interview tomorrow, as I have better things to do than sell broadband to old ladies in a Doncaster housing estate.

Report them for what - don't think they are in any way illegal - immoral maybe....

"Commission workers

Short-term schemes
Short-term schemes usually offer bonus payments or commission on sales achieved. Payments vary and these schemes are normally used just to encourage staff to improve their own performance.

Long-term schemes
Long-term schemes offer rewards like share options, and can help to encourage loyalty to the organisation and its aims.

Again from Direct gov.... hmmm i think you may be wrong!!!
