View Full Version : Having a hot bath...
...is one of the best pleasures available on Earth.
Having walked about 10 miles tonight (round Derwent, Howden and Ladybower dams), I have just had a right good soak in a piping hot bath, full of bubbles and sweet smelling salts.
My god. This is probably the last remaining hedonistic pursuit that is totally enjoyable and totally guilt free. I feel just fantastic after that!
Have a bath. It's great!!
(Don't forget if the simple and pure bath is not enough, just add glass of wine, candles, whale music or partner, for extra spice)
I have the most amazing bathroom...It has a jacuzzi bath and waterproof speakers in the ceiling...only trouble is I never have enough time to have a long un-interrupted soak with 3 kids and a Hubby to look after!!
I
It's the 10 mile hike that makes you appreciate it though, Deavon ;)
Jealous :D
Draggletail 12-08-2005, 00:26 Women's stuff!!!:D
Seriously, how many men would luxuriate in a bath with sweet smelling salts, candles and wine?
OK, probably loads of guys wiil now respond 'ME'
I hate baths. They make me overheated. I am also impatient and not good at relaxing in this way.
In fact I'm not good at relaxing in any sort of way, really:(
I'm pleased that you derive real pleasure from it though Deavon, good on yer:)
redrobbo 12-08-2005, 00:28 I agree with you Deavon. After a tramp around the hills, dales or mountains comes the relief of kicking off your boots and having a long, relaxing soak in the bath.
But what's this idea of having extra spice and sharing with a partner? :nono: I like to dribble the hot tap to keep the water temperature constant. Can't do that with two in the bath. Oh no, after a day on the fells, hills or moors, the bath's all mine - all mine you hear me? All mine....... :hihi: :heyhey:
Draggletail 12-08-2005, 00:30 Do you have the luxury of a Stella whilst in the bath, redrobbo? ;)

You know me too well Draggletail!
Two cans - but drunk from a large glass - straight from the fridge, ice cold. Glorious relaxation in the bath!
Snowdonia is booked for next month (and again in October and November) - must start packing the Stella now! :hihi:
Splodge_CRB 12-08-2005, 00:40 Took your advice, Deavon and I have to say it wasn't relaxing at all.
The candles looked lovely, the wine was suitably chilled....
It was the whale music that spoiled the ambience though :suspect:
Oh well, next time I'll do like the vet says and put the cold water in first

You've almost convinced me of the benefits of a long soak in the bath there, redrobbo......
Enjoy snowdonia :)

I know what you mean.
It's nice to keep the tub 'on the boil'.
However, after waking up one New Year's Day morning in a bath that was overflowing, and dripping into the hotel room below (too much wine, partner, whale music the night before:rolleyes: ), I leave the taps off these days.
Draggletail 12-08-2005, 00:52 I just have a shower to scrape of the muck after a hard days Dragglin' :hihi:
I could never sit down and relax even as a child.
Mind, as a child it was a 'tin bath in front of the fire on a friday night job'
Maybe that's something to do with it? :help:
Scented candles - luxury - I had issues with the spiders in the outside toilet
redrobbo 12-08-2005, 01:04 Ah, someone else who remembers the old tin bath ey Draggletail!
As kids, we spent shool holidays staying with relatives in County Durham. Huge smoke-blackened pans and kettles were put to boil on the open fire in the living room on a Saturday night. The tin bath would be fetched inside from the outhouse. Younger sister Sue had the first bath, quickly followed by myself, then Mum and lastly Dad. The water was never changed, but constantly topped up inbetween baths from the plentiful supply on the open fire.
But, being a kid, this was pre-Stella days of course!

All me 'peers' lived in houses with 'real' bathrooms and indoor toilets.
I was ashamed:blush:  Boo Hoo!
Little stone built end terrace in West Yorks.
Me Mum still lives there, bless:)
Edit: She got a government grant ages ago, so now she has an indoor loo and a real bath

Looxury! You jammy Draggle, you didn't know you were born!
I grew up in the coldest house in the whole of the frozen tundra (Northumberland)
The bathroom was only bearable for about three weeks of the year, Winter was made even worse by draughty windows and an old claw foot enamel bath (people pay a small fortune for these now, they're welcome to 'em!) You had to pour a kettle of boiling water around the bath first before putting any hot water in otherwise it would go instantly cold. I thought I was on a winner if I got to soap and rinse before going hypothermic!
Our family could have took Olympic gold for damp speed dressing anytime...
Every time I heard of people having a tin bath by the fire or saw it on tv, I was instantly mesmerised by visions of such pure unadulterated sybaritic luxury of a hot bath in warm surroundings with towels warming in front of the fire.
By 'eck! Old folks today, eh? :shakes:
you can't beat a lovely warm bath, scented bath foam, candles, wine, good book Hmmmm, lovely!
At least once a day - maybe more .... luxuriate, relax and chill out ....

I too remember the bath experience Red. The up side was that I got to watch telly from the bathtub. The downside was zero privacy. We only lit the fire in the kitchen so having a bath there was like having one in the middle of Victoria station.
I learned to be very relaxed about not wearing clothes from those early years. In fact I think my leanings towards naturism date back to these good old days. Wouldn't walk around in the buff these days though :gag:
I don't often have a bath these days - i'm all about the showers - but when i do I want to be on my own, glass of wine, loads of bubbles, complete quiet and a good book and sit there till I wrinkle all up before climbing into bed and falling into a lovely long sleep.
Can't beat that warm snuggly feeling :)
Marvellous :)
Cranberry 12-08-2005, 16:27 What about the benefits of a bath for softening up toenails to make them easier to clip? A shower just doesn't do it.

Toenails like an elephant, eh? :D :hihi: ;)
I'd be interested to see what percentage of men like baths :) Personally I can't stand them and consider it to be torture to sit all hot and bothered and totally bored. The last time I was persuaded to have a hot bath, I was compared to a dog feeling incredibly sorry for itself... If you're that exhausted, have a quick shower and a lie down! ;)
Well I've just about sorted out my hangover... churning tummy is starting to still. Head is no longer thumping. Room has stopped inconveniently spinning.
Now time for a muscle soak bath. Old bones no longer handle dancing all night so well.
Now where's the Radox?

you &^&^%%$^* . I'm too tall to enjoy a hot bath. something always sticks out :suspect:
muddycoffee 27-09-2005, 13:55 I love having a soak in the bath.
It's the only way to get all the clinkers out!
I usually do a sudoku while I lay back in the bath with the radio on in the background. It really helps me to relax before I go to bed, and I am often half asleep when I climb out of the bath.
Before going out for beers I will often have a soak in a hot bath which charges me up with heat so I don't need to get wrapped up so warm.

it all depends on how cold it is ;)
I cant be doing with baths. Showers are the way forward. Dont like the idea of sitting there stewing in my own muck.

honeybee 27-09-2005, 20:25 Ah long soaks in the bath absolute luxury.
Like nothing better than a hot steamy bubble bath with scented candles, relaxing music and a glass or two of wine (helps to have partner on hand to refill with wine when glass is empty)
There is just nothing more relaxing.
(Really fancy a nice relaxing bath but the water boiler has broken and I have to make do with an electric shower just not the same at all  )
