Just thought i'd better warn anyone who is thinking of visiting Thornberry Animal sanctuary over the next few days to be careful. We have been ice-bound for days and the yard is very slippery. We have managed to do some gritting, but supplies in our area are like rocking-horse poo so we can only do the minimum. All the animals are safe and warm - we've kept them inside after quick walkies; just us humans who are freezing !
If you decide to brave it,PLEASE BE CAREFUL.

I was thinking of coming down to see if you have any dog cages down there for sale, if I do come down (will be friday) i will try and bring a carrier bag of grit or 2.

make sure you have signs up everywhere, blame and claim springs to mind, animal lovers or not! x

I heard some interesting info about signs the other day...

Apparently, if it is apparent that it is slippery (ie. there is snow on the ground) then you can't be blamed for someone slipping. However if you put signs up, you are acknowledging that there is a problem, taking responsibility for it by warning people of it but failing to do anything about it (ie. it is still slippery) so you can be done for it.

I was told this by someone who recently went on a health and safety course for their job.

I don't know how accurate it is, but you may want to just double check where you stand as you may actually be better without the signs as snow is 'an act of God'.

Well all that effort and its' all soggy now ! Never mind. We managed to clear almost the entire yard and its virtually a gritty beach now. If this thaw keeps up, we'll be filling sandbags with the stuff and issuing water-wings.
