View Full Version : Update from lee strappedforcash
As you are well aware, we have recruited the services of ‘Inner Circle’ commercial bankers, to help us in our quest for long term investment. I am sure you will understand that gaining such a commitment from any such party can be a protracted evolution, especially when faced with the financial challenges of today’s market. You are all impatient for news of progress, as am I.
In order to alleviate this I have recruited a new, in-house team of specialists, who will help us in the fiscal short to medium term. After a thorough and lengthy consultation period I have, I feel, recruited the people most able to assist us raise our financial profile in these challenging times. They have a proven track record in helping groups through economically demanding times, and have gained a robust reputation for profiting during those same conditions.
As with any such venture, there is an element of risk, but given the social background of this team, I feel we have reduced this to an absolute minimum, whilst maximising our potential to raise revenue.
Ladies and gentlemen, meet the team…”

You are being led down the garden path by Lee Strafford

LADYBIRDS 13-01-2010, 14:05 I treat him as pure entertainment, but for the Owls fans and on a more serious issue the club can not carry on with the losses they are maintaining at present. The debt is growing, the team is poor and the gates are falling.
Realism has to step in soon, Dave Allen wants his cash, the tax bill will soon be due, and investment well we all know the story. Restructuring the bank agreement will not cover the cracks.
As for assets Grant and tugay!! whats their worth, Grant is a brill keeper, but if sold would have to be replaced at some cost, he is prob worth 5 points to the team in the coming 5 month so is a sale wise? as for Tugay his form has dipped so much is not a matter of a fee anymore, its a matter of someone taking over his contract !
Mr Straffords inner and outer circles now involves a team of experts, they also come at a cost, whos paying for them? Strafford boasted contacts worldwide at one stage, yet none care to show their hand in Straffords many false investment dates.
PURE ENTERTAINMENT!!
Its the genuine fans and supporters who feel the embarassment, while some hide in a directors box and churn out the spin.
Ken Bates as much of a pain he is, he delivers ,what could he have done with the Owls? He knows football and business. Puts his cash in and gets results. What a missed chance that was.

Have to agree CB, more Owls should be putting pressure on Strafford to come up with the goods.
Bottom of the league is bad enough, add the false promises and debt ,:confused:but if relegation follows its the silent fans who must take a little of the blame. The tollerance of the chairman, his promises and his faliures has been telling, yea lots have voted with their feet , yet put up and accept with "we have heard it all before" "if it happens it happens" well supporters wake up, Relegation and administration are fast becoming a reality.
I dont want the Owls to go down, but am resigning myself to losing the derby fixture for many years to come.

Bloody heck CB, me agreeing with you, well owts possible I guess. The income from gate money, season tickets and whatever other commercial activities a football club has should pay for all of their expenses.
Portsmouth could be the first premiership club to go tits up, they will not be on their own. Young kids becoming multi millionaires in a few short seasons, no sports shop or pub for them when their playing days are over. The whole thing is a farce. I hazzard a guess that in my time, I have been a damn sight better at my job than a lot of footballers have been at theirs.
£120,000 per week, do you realise how stupid this is?

I dont believe for one minute that Dave Allen jumped on the bandwagon to make a quick buck. I think against his better judgement that he was co-erced by the existing board at the time as he was seen as a local successful businessman in the leisure industry.

I chat with plenty of football supporters from other clubs. had a rabbit with 4 middlesbrough fans yesterday on london road. none of them were laughing at our law suit over westham in fact they were praising our stance. I hear a lot of visiting fans to westhams upton park taunt the shammers with the song "we should be at bramall lane".

Yea to be fair. its a local issue , talked in the pubs and local forums. But its such a big topic, often laughable. The forcasts, the budgets and the deadlines.
That last AGM, it was stated 3 interested parties were at an investment stage never reached in previous bids.
Dec 09 he gave a dead line of March 2009 !! Radio Sheffield have taken a lot of heat off Strafford, insisting the January 2010 deadlines "would be telling".

Could you expand on constant law-suits and point me in the direction of any supporting information to back this up. Here is a definition of constant to help you.
con·stant (knstnt)
adj.
1. Continually occurring; persistent.
2. Regularly recurring: plagued by constant interruptions.

Thats one then for the avoidance of doubt and a succesful one too.
And dont think for one minute that if it had been Wigan or Fulham that had their positions reversed with ours that they would not have taken the same action, as both Messrs Whelan and Fayed indicated that this would be the case.

i just dont think a club should be allowed to take on the pitch matters to court and settle for an 'out of court settlement', if United were 'done' by West Ham then surely you would have gone for the full £60m?

United's issue was with the non-registration of players. That is an 'off the pitch' issue. It's not like they were contesting a goal or a penalty.

id class the issue as an on the pitch issue as surely the whole case was that without Tevez's goals, SUFC would have stayed up - i dont think that can be proven but obviously WHU were worried that the courts would rule in favour of SUFC so decided to settle out of court,
just my view on it and im guessing that SUFC wont be carrying on with this latest forrage into legal matters

No I (and most of the Blades) on here don't think it was entirely the shammers fault BUT as has been proved both by the prem league and the courts they did not play on a level playing field by playing a player that they should not have

scoobydotcom 18-01-2010, 12:20 Owls aren't intersted in the takeover talk etc.
Hmm I can go with that or they would have answered strafford call to step up and attend games.
There again thats only those who don't put their money where their mouth is and step up to the mark.
Owls are more interested in the tevez affair then hmm.
when you've heard all the: Ken bates, Geoff Sheard & all those others i cant remember the name of - it gets tiresome and new dealines etc arent that interesting anymore ... wouldnt say owls fans were more interested in tevez than our own investment, not by a long way - but its ammunition for us against sufc and u guys use the investment as ammunition to have a laugh at us, thats part of being a football fan
i got a message on facebook from LS the other day:
i asked him why he says it would be the fans fault if we dont average 25,000 and meet budget he replied :-
It all our "responsibility", you appear to have difficulty understanding the words and messages from an honest person, I have never blamed the fans you muppet :-) , as I am one.

don't expect you to prove it, just wasn't sure if it was a joke or something. it was a reasonable question, bit off to react like that, not going to win many fans around answering like that and the ones that are still behind him could end up turning aswell

I understand Strafford when he's saying we need to back the club if we want success....just wish he wouldn't use terms like muppet - even if it's just in jest, as it's hard to convey that over the net.
To be fair to Strafford, he gets a lot of unwarranted grief over people twisting things or not really understanding what he means. Not once has he promised anything or criticised the fans - he's just trying to encourage fans back to Hillsborough. His hearts in it and we could do things if the fans can back in numbers.

Portsmouth have threatened to sue the Premier League to try and get the club's transfer embargo lifted.

Antics^^ 18-01-2010, 14:43 im not doubting that - but i said 'like united have' after which was important to the context of the statement
The context is only there because West Ham broke the rules, without the rule break there is no legal case.
Hypothetically, If United signed Michael Owen (illegally) and he scored a hat-trick to send you down at Hillsborough you wouldn't be a bit ****** off. Just take off your blue and white spectacles for just a moment, and have a think about an injustice like that, forget it's United.
The whole legal issue wasn't highlighted by United, it was brought up by Liverpool. Add in that Fayed and Dave Whelan also said they'd sue if they were relegated, so that answers your question about other clubs suing.
The pay out is there in black and white, people don't give out millions of pounds just for the hell of it. West Ham surely wouldn't lay down and cough up if they'd not wronged United?

People write things in private messages that they'd never write on a public forum. Its no biggie...dont make a mountain out of a molehill.

first get a free program called pix resizer, then resize all the pictures you want as an avatar, cos file size and picture size are ristriced on most forums, TIP: copy one from a forum that you like it'll already be the right size.
then join the free photo hosting site called photobucket, and upload all your resized pictures. under each picture you'll notice html/http and IMG links for that pic copy the http or IMG link. Then back on sheffield forum goto my control panel and select the change avatar option and you'll see a box to paste the link you copied into it....there you go mate the rough guide to posting an avatar

Deadlines - Yes BUT he always says investment is NOT definite. He has said he'll tell us straight away if this current investment deal is not going to come to fruition. Fans listen to only part of what he says, then these fans spread stuff and them blame it on Strafford. If they actually listened fully, they would understand what Strafford is trying to achieve and see he has not created any so-called spin.
He hasn't blamed the fans...he's merely stating that without investment (which is where we're at currently) if we want to progress, the fans need to back us in numbers and that is right...there;s no other way if we don't get investment..why can't fans understand this is beyond me. Fans want star palyers, we can't have them unless we back the club..simple as.
In terms of the words muppet etc, I think he was wrong to say it to scooby, but whenever I've seen him use this term on Owlstalk it is to certain members who come on to cause trouble and actually create spin and it does affect our fanbase. A Blade created an account on Owlstalk and pretended to be an american investor stating investment was nearly done....a few members started to believe him....now if that happens and then investment doesn't happen, these daft fans will feel let down and blame it on Strafford even though that wouldn't be Strafford's fault. However Strafford came on and told it how it is and stopped this spin merchant on Owlstalk getting Owls fans hopes up too much.

Perhaps if strafford spent less time on facebook and other social networks and concentrated on the job he was brought in for, the fans would be less critical.
Also you keep going on about fans turning up, it's been a fact of football for years that the more succesful a team is the more fans come and watch.

I read the same interview AD, however why would you hand a 3 and a half year contract to a manager when investment is on the brink.... what if the new regime wanted their own man in?
That was the indicator that showed no investment is on the horizon.

Only because every attempt at takeover level has failed.
They would welcome a takeover.
Robbie Loving 18-01-2010, 17:48 he's looking for someone to invest - not to takeover
When people invest, they generally want a say in the matter.
i presume irvine wasnt in the frame at the time
So then would it not be safe to assume that his original statement of not appointing someone until investment was in to be a total untruth?
Ferguson was available when Laws was sacked.
He only appointed Irvine because a manager of his calibre (he doesn't really have much standing in the game, nor has he really achieved anything of serious note as a manager) became available after all.
Also, do you find it a tad strange that 2 managers not good enough for the Owls (Laws/Ferguson) have gone on to better jobs?
LADYBIRDS 18-01-2010, 17:48 he's looking for someone to invest - not to takeover
Takeovers, investment, investors!! the last statements suggested a financial re structuring with a big help from the co-op bank.
Dec 08 he talked of £50m investments, Dec 09 he talks of share issues and banks writing off debts totaling an input of just£20m. These and other rumours and deadlines have proved to be fruitless.
January is a critical month for his creditability as a club chairman. You cant keep blagging the paying public.

alex3659 18-01-2010, 17:54 saved preston from relegation (when they were in similair position to us)
got them into play-offs
was mid table mid-season
id take something similair and im sure everyone else associated with SWFC would ... lets just hope he can reproduce that
The fans might be impressed with that fair enough but to an investor putting millions in it would mean nothing.
On your reckoning Blackwell must be a right money magnet for United.

PNE have a good defence/keeper.
The rest of their squad is 'decent'.
It was a good feat to get them in the play offs, but no more than that. It was on par of Burnley doing it.
ALTY,
Deadlines yes !! forcasts yes!! budgets yes!! COCKED UP
Investment ??OK not cocked it up yet ONLY FOR THE FACT as he cant find any!
You again quote Owlstalk in you responce, like Blades forums , rumour and trouble makers appear on all of them, information should be taken with a pinch of salt and not used as factual statement as in some many of your replys in the past.
You seem to think Owlstalk has some creditability in the football community, is this because your chairman uses it for his ranting?
Dealines which as mentioned were NOT definite. Forcasts on attendances yes...but I think every Owl expected Attendances to up, after all these so-called fans said they'd return once certain people left the club.
The bold bit I agree..I never take it as fact..but there's a lot of fans who do and start getting excited...then they blame Strafford..hence why Strafford comes on to not let these spin merchants get some of our fans carried away.
crookesey 18-01-2010, 17:56 Well that's it then show business it is, scooby will be serenading Miss Piggy with his rendition of Endless Love, pre match from the centre circle. Lee Strafford will follow with his own version of Money That's What I Want. Not to be out done, Kevin McCabe will come on and give a rousing version of A Boy Named Sue, the mind boggles.
NERVY-OWL 18-01-2010, 17:57 i thought ferguson turned us down? after a chat with his dad
thats what i heard but i also heard he had 2 interviews, so i never know what to believe and quite frankly not too fussed, irvine out of all the names mentioned would of been my choice anyway.
as for strafford it sometimes seems like he can't win. he tries to keep fans updated online but then gets slated for using forums etc too much(i don't think he should be doing it so much) but if he didn't say anything the fans would then say he wasn't keeping the fans informed. although i'm definately not a supporter of him like alty is i will give him chance. i have pretty much given up with investment now but as far as the running of the club goes he is doing a decent job, even though he has made mistakes but i don't remember any deadlines set for the investments either
For an ass mod his views are so blinkered you cannot expect anything else His view on the matter "as someone who knows whats going on???" are that strappedforcash can't do anything wrong
To be fair pal...A lot of peoples views in my opinion are ridiculously blinkered in regard to Strafford. I'm not saying he's the greatest chairma ever..but the amount of crap he gets is totally unfounded when he's the only man who's tried and is trying to turn around Wednesday. Maybe if all Wednesdayites backed the club we'd have a lot more success...negativity doesn't help anyone.

well McCabe seems to trust him with cash! would be interesting if McCabe left SUFC if the new owner would be as confident in his ability
I know what u mean though, Investors who are not genuine footy fans like a big name and while Irvine might be a respected in the game he isnt exactly world renowned (i doubt, no offence ted!), s'pose it depends from which background these investors would be coming from (not that im fussy!!!)

Attendaces did go up but like I said if it's not producing results they will soon drop again.
LADYBIRDS 18-01-2010, 18:00 Dealines which as mentioned were NOT definite. .
So in Dec 08 when he stated all would be finalised by Mar 09 what did he mean?
NOT DEFINATE !! ONLY BECAUSE THEY NEVER OCCURED.
His mod status has little to do with his views or opinions, i would suggest his lack of years and his student status has more to do with his tollerance of the chairman.
Alty is entitled to his opinion, no matter how much ours may differ.
That has nothing to do with my views either. My Dad and many other Wednesdayites I've spoken to hold a similar view to mine...though others don't.

Thats a very fair statement, and in defence of most Owls fans they stood by him for far to long. But Blagging the paying fan for sooooooooooooo long has now took its effect on the supporter/stay away fans.

post of 2010 - no doubt !!!

He never said investment was definite though, thats the point. Deadlines were so that talks didn't drag on and on.

I never listen to my dad, never did:) its my personal opinion i value most.;)

:hihi: fair enough...I don't take my opinions from him though...He supports both Sheffield clubs for christ sake, but is a season ticket holder at Hillsborough:hihi:
alex3659 18-01-2010, 18:34 Too many owls have put their wednesday hats away.
They will not replace them until the team improves.

The new manager will add a little needed feel good factor though, with a few early wins etc.
But again the stay away fans will need a little more before returning .

Well CB, I once has a horrendously painful abscess on my ring piece, and guess what, when the doctor lanced it I didn't miss it one jot. ;)
Now you take that long suffering wife of yours, and show her a bloody good holiday flower.
